AMT vs. Manual for low running (Tata Punch)?
Hi everyone, looking for some advice on choosing between an AMT and a Manual transmission. I am mostly looking at the Tata Punch.
Here is my usage profile:
Location: Najafgarh, Delhi
Running: low. Roughly 50 km/month in the city, plus a 120 km highway trip maybe once every 2-3 months.
Daily Commute: Not needed (I get an office cab for pickup/drop).
History: My current car has only done 32k km in 13 years (averaging ~200 km/month).
The Dilemma:
I am very comfortable driving a manual, but I took an AMT for a test drive and it felt perfectly fine. The obvious benefit of the AMT is the convenience in Delhi traffic. It’s also much easier for my brother to drive. Plus, it leaves the door open for my mom and sister to eventually learn (they aren't super interested right now, but an automatic makes it far less intimidating).
My Concern:
My biggest worry is long-term AMT reliability. Do they require frequent repairs or break down often? I've heard there are some issues with the Nexon AMT, and I'm worried the Punch might share those headaches.
If anyone here has long-term ownership experience with the Tata Punch AMT, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Does the AMT make sense for my ultra-low usage, or should I just stick to a highly reliable manual?
Thanks in advance!
