Powder Bronzer Recommendations? Help A Struggling Sister Out 🤲🏾

For the dark skinned olive girls (Fenty 445, NARS New Caledonia), what bronzers are you reaching for? I’m having trouble finding good powder bronzers, specifically… When companies reach this depth, they seem to lose all nuance in tones and start making everything so red 🤧 I have deep skin with a neutral undertone but prominent golden-olive overtones which makes shopping for complexion products that match and flatter my colour feel near impossible! Any suggestions from anyone who may be in a similar boat?

Potions Class: A Lesson in Base Shades 🧙‍♀️🧪

As an olive girl, I’ve learned that if you want to find your shade, you might just have to make it yourself!

Closest to my thumb is my bronzer (no mixing required here, thankfully), then moving out towards my pinky is my foundation shade (mixed), my spot concealing shade (mixed), and my highlighting concealer shade (mixed). While these may not look like perfect matches on my hand, please note that my face is a bit more pigmented. Closer to my knuckles are my old bronzer/contour, foundation, and concealer shades…

As someone who who has virtually one makeup look and doesn’t otherwise purchase multiples of products, I always say that the silver living to mixing shades is that you’ll always be able to have your perfect match, year round!

Shade Matching Scaries Update

To all the people who commented on my last post to encourage me to keep searching to find my perfect foundation shade for deep olive skin, thank you! I was fully prepared to settle (as we olive girlies often do), but I decided to make some tweaks and I think I’ve finally found my holy grail perfect match! The first photo is the foundation (and another one that I used to use in the past for comparison) swatched along my jawline, and the second photo is it blended all over half of my face. Please forgive my dry patches and discolouration, but dare I say, I may have struck makeup gold. Much love to this community.

Not only is shade matching as an olive girlie hard enough on its own, but add to that the task of having to calculate the averages of the varying depths and pigmentation within your skin tone to select that right match! 😭 I think all three could work under the right circumstances, but the struggle is very real.
