Looking for my first electric dirt bike, what should I actually be looking at?
looking at small electric dirt bikes as something I could learn on before eventually moving to a regular motorcycle.
I have zero motorcycle experience right now. I’m planning to take the MSF before I ever ride on the street, but we have private property with a roughly two mile dirt loop, so I figured it might be a decent place to get comfortable with a throttle first.
The loop is mostly packed dirt. There’s loose gravel near the gate, a few shallow truck ruts, a short washboard section, and one small hill.
I’m mainly trying to learn slow turns, braking, throttle control, and how not to tense up when the bike moves around a little on gravel. No jumps or technical trails.
I’ve been watching reviews of the Razor MX650, Tuttio Soleil01, and Globalkeep Solei-X8, but YouTube has honestly made this harder.
One video spends half the review doing top speed runs. Another climbs one hill and calls the bike a beast. None of that really tells me what would be easiest to learn on at 10 to 15 mph.
The MX650 looks like the least intimidating option. I’m 5'7" and around 155 lbs though, and I keep seeing adult owners modify them pretty quickly. I’m not sure whether I’d be happy with one stock for very long.
The Soleil01 seems like the opposite problem. Around 40 mph is way more than I need for a two mile practice loop, and I’m not sure extra speed helps when I’m still trying to learn basic throttle control.
Then there’s the Solei-X8. It’s around 25 mph and uses smaller fat tires with suspension front and rear.
I honestly don’t know what that translates to for a beginner. Would the smaller wheels make the ruts harder to deal with, or would the suspension matter more on the washboard? It’s also around 76 lbs, which sounds light compared with a motorcycle but maybe not so light after tipping it over a few times.
I know none of these will teach me clutch control or shifting, so I’m not treating this as a replacement for the MSF.
Anyone here familiar with this type of bike? I could use some help figuring out what I’m missing.
