Hey everyone, I'm hoping to get some help because I'm confused???

I'm an admitted transfer student, and suddenly today my financial aid package was revised to suddenly have this fiat lux scholarship???

Isn't this the prestigious scholarship for incoming first years from local high schools??? Did Berkeley missclick? Not only am I a transfer student, I didn't even go to a high school in California so idk why they gave me this

Should I email the financial aid office or call them and ask? Any advice? Anyone who's experienced similar?

Update: Turns out I DID get the fiat lux scholarship. For future transfers, there is a portion of the fiat lux scholarship that will be given to transfers, and you get the same benefits! Go Bears!!

Which school do I transfer to?

I was updated on my packages for my accepted unis (transfer student going into junior year) and ended up getting a full ride to three different universities, as a junior transfer student:

  1. UC Berkeley (econ & ds major, will take an additional semester so i graduate in 2.5 years)

  2. Swarthmore College (econ & math major, graduate in 2 years)

  3. John Hopkins University (econ major but open to take on a double major once there, credits let me graduate in 2 years but I can prolong to 3)

I'm personally leaning toward either Berkeley or Swarthmore, and struggling to pick between the two, but which one would you all recommend?

My main worry for berk is the huge class sizes (harder to get close to professors and abundance of competition) and difficult club culture (hard to get into clubs, especially at the 'top' clubs). For Swarth is the lower name recognition and small alumni base. For JHU it's the health/premed reputation and location

Looking into pursuing corporate finance (being realistic), FP&A (credits to a nice commenter that informed me)

Swarthmore vs Berkeley econ as a transfer student

Hi! I'm interested in a career in finance and have had some minor experience in it. I come from a very low income background and got accepted to both Swarthmore College and UC Berkeley (economics) for transfer this fall.

Which of the both would you recommend for a career in finance? I know neither is ideal but which one would be better? at Swarthmore I'll major in economics and either math or stats, while at berkeley i'll be majoring in econ and hopefully data science (unconfirmed since I'm on the waitlist for the prereq classes)

Swarthmore also gave me a full ride while for Berkeley, my residency is still being classified (issue with my parent's doc) but with max aid it would be 5.5k out of pocket.

I'm also interested in getting a masters so there's that too. I'm mainly hung up on Berkeley's prestige and their club culture. I've heard from friends at Berk that their clubs have some years let in 0 transfer students which is worrying

Any and all advice is welcome. I genuinely want to hear your thoughts

I'm an Econ major!!

Wanted to send this out since I lowk don't see many econ ppl around here (where r yall i want new friends 🥀) plus I remember asking so many successful transfers for advice back then and wanted to extend that help

If any prospective transfers want advice or anything, feel free to hmu, here or in DMs are fine!! I also helped out a couple friends get in to some places, details:

- Biology/bioeng - UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI

- CS - UCLA, UCSD, UCI

- BizEcon - UCLA, UCSD, UCSB

- Econ - 9/9

- Comm - UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB

etc.

I do apologize in advance if I take a while to respond, I'm actually a paid transfer mentor at my campus so I get a lot of messages and like if i get reported then its joever for me 😭

Good luck to everyone!

I'm curious if there's anyone who's gotten straight rejections/waitlists/crickets so far? I feel like every time I open the sub, it's full of acceptances

Also, how's everyone holding up now that May is coming up? Anyone else nervous as hell and feeling immensely cooked?? 😭
