700 km (Appx) Purulia Monsoon Ride on my Yamaha XSR 155 🏍️🌧️

Just completed my first proper monsoon adventure ride with the group, and this one was absolutely worth it.

The trip had pretty much everything:

~700 km total including exploring around Purulia

Long highway stretches

Monsoon rain riding

Mud trails

Off-road sections

Uphill & downhill trails

Water crossings with the bike

Waterfall + a bath 😅

Exploring unknown roads and places

Great food and stay with the group

The XSR 155 performed really well overall. It handled the highway sections and touring comfortably, but the stock road-oriented tyres definitely struggled in the muddy/off-road sections. I had one small slip/fall on a downhill section because of the lack of traction, but thankfully only had a little pain in my right leg and no damage to the bike.

The Solace Rival Urban V3 jacket was great, especially in the rain, although it got pretty hot/sweaty whenever we stopped. My Quechua MH100 shoes handled the initial light rain, but during the heavy rain on the return highway ride they eventually got completely soaked, including my socks.

I also came back with some shoulder pain, so I'm now looking into handlebar risers.

Fuel economy for the trip averaged around 45.27 km/L, with fuel at roughly ₹114/L. For ~700 km, fuel cost was around ₹1,760.

Overall, this was probably my biggest jump in riding experience so far. I've done highway and touring rides before, but this was my first time combining long-distance highway riding + monsoon + mud + water crossings + trails + proper uphill/downhill off-road sections.

The XSR isn't an ADV, and this trip definitely showed me where its limits are — but damn, what a trip. 😂🔥

Already thinking about the next one.

What should be my next credit card?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for advice on what my next credit card should be.

My current cards:

  • HDFC MoneyBack+ — ₹37,000 limit
  • HDFC RuPay UPI companion card
  • CIBIL: 742
  • Current HDFC card is relatively new.

My spending is roughly:

  • Fuel: ₹4,000+/month
  • 🛒 Everything else: ₹7,000–₹8,000/month

I'm considering getting a dedicated fuel card as my second card. I currently prefer BPCL, although I'm also willing to use HPCL if the rewards are significantly better.

I'm looking at:

  • BPCL SBI Card
  • BPCL SBI Card OCTANE
  • IDFC FIRST Power
  • Or any other card you think would be better for my spending.

I've also been getting LTF offers for cards like Jupiter Edge+, Axis Neo RuPay, and Swiggy HDFC ORNGE, but I'm not sure if adding another generic/LTF card makes sense.

What would you choose as my next card and why?

Also, should I go for a fuel card now, or wait a few months since my HDFC card is still new?

Thanks!

Update: Got approved for SBI BPCL CC for 59k Limit (not octante)

Rainy seasons and XSR

Did a ride today. The dark clouds, cool breeze, and empty stretches of highway made it one of those rides you don't forget.

The bike came back absolutely filthy—mud, road grime, and water everywhere. 😅 Honestly, I don't feel like washing it after every rainy ride because it's just going to get dirty again the next day.

My plan is to keep riding through the monsoon and give it a proper wash once the rainy spell settles down. In the meantime, I'll just make sure the chain is cleaned and lubricated regularly, and I'll rinse off any heavy mud if it builds up.

For those of you who ride regularly in the rain:

1. Do you wash your bike after every ride?

2. Or do you wait until the monsoon eases and just focus on chain maintenance?

Ride safe! 🤙🌧️

First Solo Tour on My Yamaha XSR

First Proper Solo Tour on My Yamaha XSR 155

  • Total Distance: 453 km
  • Mileage: ~46 km/l (Appx)
  • ODO: 3375 km → 3828 km
  • Top Speed: 109 km/h
  • Bike: Yamaha XSR 155

Highlights

  • First solo motorcycle tour.
  • Early morning departure before sunrise.
  • Covered 450+ km over the weekend.
  • Experienced everything from scorching heat to a proper thunderstorm.
  • Had to take a few extra hydration breaks because the weather was brutal.
  • Grand Pitstop air cushion was a game changer for comfort.
  • 12L tail bag was more than enough for a weekend trip.
  • Bike handled highway cruising, city traffic, and rough patches without any issues.

Takeaways

  • The XSR 155 is much more capable as a touring bike than people give it credit for.
  • Comfortable cruising pace matters more than top speed.
  • Staying hydrated is just as important as fuel stops in summer.
  • The biggest win wasn't the destination—it was realizing that 200+ km riding days are completely manageable.

Returned home tired, slightly sunburnt, and with a cough/cold 😅, but it was absolutely worth it.

Here is fueling milage log.

I started using this app (Fuelio) for logging fuel expense.

I use regular fule and alwase do full tank for better calculation. As the price gone up and I stared doing weekend long rides it's really helpful, even better than the bike's onboard milage calculator.

Let me know how much you all getting milage in XSR.
