Attached a guardian bell - Better places to keep it?

Hey all!

Atom got an update! Added the official radiator guard as well as the knee pads.

Now, a well wisher wanted to hang a guardian bell. Currently attached it at the side, where the wires go through.

Technically, it's not supposed to be seen and be at the lowest point of the bike. However, I'd like to attach it where it won't get lost, stolen and somewhat easily removable when I give it for servicing.

Do you happen to know any places on the XSR where I can attach it safely and help me out with this regard?

My first long ride on the XSR 155

I bought the bike on the 18th April. Now, due to the assembly election in West Bengal, processing and generation of the number plate took about a month. So, I couldn't find much time to ride the bike.

Now, the first service is in one month and I wanted to run it close to 800km at least before going for the first service.

With all these in mind, I was looking a place to ride about 300km a day and this place fits the plan perfectly.

Pathra is about 140-145 km from Kolkata. It is located on the banks of the Kangshabati river. There were multiple temples, built by Majumdar and Banerjee families who were revenue collectors for Nawabs.

Most of the temples are in bad conditions. Now these have been taken over by the ASI. But these are free to enter and you rarely will find any guide here. Apart from the temples, there is a park on the banks of the river.

Since the temperature is on the rise, we started at 6, had one or two chai stops and reached the village by around 10. Stayed there for a couple of hours, skipped boating and returned back home after a long lunch break by 6 pm in the evening.

The progress was slow since I was in the break in period. My average speed was 70-75kph and for once, reached 100kph+ speed. On the console, mileage showed about 52kpl. My not so young back took a beating though after the 300km round trip.

XSR 155 noisy around 4k RPM

My 2nd service is approaching, but lately I’ve been hearing a pretty noticeable sound/vibration coming from either the engine area or somewhere near the front once the bike hits around 4k RPM. Initially I thought it was something from the front end, but the weird part is the sound goes away when I engage the clutch.

Not sure if I’m overthinking it or if this is just a normal XSR/155 platform thing. Anyone else experienced this?

My bike keeps making this hissing noise as i accelerate,

I keep hearing this hissing noise as i accelerate, previously i only heard it when i was pushing my bike on foot, i think its my front break disc plate is rubbing somewhere, i showed it to yamaha service centre, he told me its a new bike and its normal to hear this sound.

Please give some suggestions.

Anyone know if there's a service (not owner's) manual?

I'd like to learn to work on the bike myself as much as possible. Anyone know where I can download/buy it online?

Story time: Getting the XSR 155 as my first bike!

TLDR: The journey of how I ended up buying my first bike, the Yamaha XSR 155. What was going through my mind, the confusion, the struggles, test rides, second-hand hunting, and finally getting the bike. Reddit genuinely helped me a lot through this process, so I just wanted to share my story with the community!

Story time!

Hello everyone! I’m 21 years old, just finished my 3rd year in college, and around September 2025, I decided I needed a bike soon. I had just gotten my license and started discussing it with my parents since I’d need one for internships, and also because I genuinely wanted to learn riding properly while I’m young. Obviously, my parents were financing it (I can’t afford one myself yet).

I’ll be honest, I did feel a bit guilty about spending my parents’ money on a bike. But my dad understands me really well. Even if I had asked for a 3–4 lakh bike, he probably would’ve agreed. He just wants me to learn properly and ride safely. Still, as a son, I wanted to be sensible with the budget and get something practical for my needs. ( Tbh, the final decision might not be the most sensible to some with the cost paid , but it felt sensible to me.)

In my head, I wanted a “one-bike garage” bike. My needs were:

  • Good in the city primarily
  • Looks amazing
  • Can handle occasional long rides
  • Easy maintenance
  • Good mileage
  • Retro/neo-retro styling

My budget was around 2 lakhs on-road (Bangalore btw). Basically, I wanted a bang for the buck first bike. Didn’t want something too expensive or too powerful since I knew I’d probably upgrade later in life.

Naturally, the RE Hunter 350 and TVS Ronin became my main options. I didn’t really consider the Honda CB350RS initially because it was stretching the budget. But then around October, news came that the XSR 155 was launching.

I checked it out, and it felt like the perfect bike for me. It's beginner-friendly (155cc engine), decent mileage, amazing looks, and good for city as well as long rides. There was also a nostalgic factor. My dad’s first bike was a Yamaha Crux R, bought just before I was born, and it STILL runs today. Lot of memories sitting on it. I actually recently rode it too. Loved the feeling, but old bikes without ABS honestly scare me a little. Additionally, people had been waiting for this bike for years, and it launched right when I was searching for my first motorcycle. It seemed like it was meant for me! It had all the great safety features and enough power to satisfy a new rider while not being over the top. However, I decided to wait after the hype dies down.

Once reviews came out, reality hit. Most people felt it was overpriced for a 155cc bike. The international version looked much better, in my opinion. And honestly, I agreed with a lot of the criticism. At that price, I could either get the value-for-money Ronin or spend slightly more for the Hunter.

So I made a proper pros and cons list based on my needs as mentioned before.

At that point:
Ronin > XSR > Hunter. (Till now, I haven't actually taken a test ride btw)

The Ronin felt like the logical choice. Comfortable, practical, good mileage, good for both city and highway rides, and I actually liked the design, unlike many others online. A bang for the buck vehicle, basically.

Regarding the Hunter, I absolutely loved the look. Still think it has the best retro styling among the three. But mileage was a concern, but understandable considering the 350 cc. I also realised this sub sometimes dislikes the Hunter mainly because it’s too popular and because the CB350RS exists in that price bracket. Fair enough. But I also realised the Hunter is targeted toward a very specific kind of rider, and I probably fit that target audience perfectly.

I should also mention that around this time, I decided I’d probably buy second-hand.

Why? Mainly to avoid Karnataka taxes and save some money for riding gear and future modifications. I was specifically looking for 2025+ models with low usage so I could still get the newer colours and avoid most early ownership issues. Was really annoyed by the high taxes. Going second-hand was a safe choice in my head as it reduces my stress a bit, and helps me learn to ride well.

Then by March 2026, confusion hit again. New 350cc bikes were launching, Triumph 400s started tempting me, the CB350RS entered my head again, and I also started worrying about my height. I’m 5’4” (163 cm), so I genuinely wasn’t sure what would suit me.

For months, I kept scrolling through OLX trying to find the perfect deal in all such bikes.

This was also when I started asking Reddit a lot of questions, about bikes, second-hand purchases, registration transfer, everything. During this time, I spoke to u/Dazzling-Inside4078 after reading his XSR review. And honestly, the conversations helped me massively. He basically told me that all the bikes on my list were good bikes, and that I’d enjoy whichever one I chose. He explained the differences properly, reassured me about my height, and most importantly, told me to stop overthinking spec sheets and just test ride the bikes as that's where I'll find out what suits me.

So I finally started test riding them. First was the Ronin, the most logical bike for me on paper. But the moment I sat on it, it felt weird. Despite it having a lower seat, it felt too wide, the bike felt bulkier than expected, and didn't feel right. I was able to ride it well, and I know that the GTT helped from not stalling, but just didn’t feel right for me.

Then came the Hunter. And wow. IT was my first time riding a 350cc, and I instantly connected with it. It felt powerful, and I didn't feel scared, but confident. I literally couldn’t stop smiling for two days after that test ride. The hunter was the best test-ride experience I've had till now. Ironically, it was the bike lowest on my list initially.  But after longer rides, I got used to the power and then it felt normal.

Then I rented the XSR for a day. IT was good too. Didn't have the Hunter experience, but it felt right, too. It was comfortable, gave me confidence, light, forgiving, sporty, and practical at the same time. and I knew it had power, just didn't test it out then.

With this, I realised it was between the Hunter and the XSR. Now, i need to purchase it. By God's grace, I found an XSR on OLX. The owner had added useful accessories, maintained it really well, and clearly knew what he was talking about. While researching further, I realised I had actually seen this exact bike on YouTube; the seller was a YouTuber. He initially quoted 1.80L, and after discussions, we settled at 1.70L. Considering a new one would’ve cost around 2.10L, I felt it was a pretty solid deal.

And with that, I finally got my bike. My Yamaha XSR 155. And honestly? It fits everything I originally wanted. It gives me decent mileage, manageable power, low maintenance, sporty character, and still has that neo-retro styling I wanted. The nostalgic Yamaha connection was there too. IT has decent looks, not as much as the Hunter though.

This bike made me realise I actually enjoy revving bikes hard. I love hearing the VVA kick in, and now I genuinely want to improve my riding skills properly and maybe even try track riding someday. To be a proper rider eventually.

Besides, I got it at a great price. And avoided the whole break-in period, allowing me to enjoy the bike well. It’s also been incredibly forgiving while I learn. Initially, I've stalled multiple times, scratched it here and there and was scared crossing certain speeds. But now I’m getting more confident. I’ve started learning rev-matching, engine braking, slow-speed control, and braking techniques properly.

The posture issues people mention were solved thanks to the handlebar riser already installed on the bike, and honestly, the suspension doesn’t bother me much since I,m young and most of my riding is in the city anyway. I still haven’t gone on a proper long ride yet because I want to first buy good riding gear and improve my skills a little more.

I’m just genuinely happy with this bike. It's my first and she is lovely. I do make a lot of mistakes, but she is forgiving and takes care of me. She feels right.

So Reddit, meet my Yamaha XSR 155, Atom!

Apologies for such a long post and thank you to all those people who have posted and answered a lot of my queries. I knew Reddit was the reason I was able to get a good user experience and solid advice.

Would love to hear your thoughts, riding tips, or suggestions!

Clutchless Shifting

I was trying to practice clutchless shifting but it's difficult to time the 2nd to 3rd gear. The bike still jerks forward with 2nd to 3rd.

I'm not sure if it's because the gear ratio is too big between them or I'm just bad at it.

The manual says we must not do clutchless shifting since the motorcycle is not designed to withstand forced shifting.

What are your thoughts to this? Do yoi think clutchless shifting is advisable if the shifts are perfect?

Need Help Building My First Riding Gear Setup for the XSR 155

(Used AI to make it easier to read, as I rambled on a lot)

Hey all!

I recently got the Yamaha XSR 155 as my first bike, and I’m absolutely stoked about it. Now, I know I will eventually fall or make mistakes while learning, so I want to invest in proper riding gear early itself instead of delaying it.

My primary use case is city riding:

  • internships/work
  • college/life in general
  • short daily rides

But eventually, I do want to go on longer rides and tours too. So ideally, I’d like gear that works for both city use and occasional touring.

One thing I’m particular about is this: I want the gear to feel like part of my outfit and lifestyle, not something I only wear for long rides. Because of that, I can already see myself wearing a helmet and gloves every single ride, even for a nearby store run. I’d like to do the same with riding shoes/boots too, so I’m looking for stuff that:

  • goes well with outfits in general/ease of use
  • looks good with the silver XSR
  • is functional enough for protection ( do I trade protection for a bit more comfort/ useability?)
  • doesn’t scream “full race rider” everywhere I go

Because of this, I’m a bit confused about jackets and pants. I don’t know if I can realistically wear full riding pants and jackets daily to work/internships and normal life stuff. So I was thinking:

  • maybe knee guards instead of riding pants?
  • maybe a casual-looking riding jacket?
  • maybe arm sleeves + gloves for shorter rides?

I also plan on getting:

  • Balaclava
  • Maybe arm sleeves
  • Riding shoes/boots
  • Knee guards
  • Jacket eventually

For helmets, I want something that has all the bells and whistles. I really like the black tinted visor look because, let’s be honest, it looks cool!

But I’m not sure how practical it is for night riding. So I was wondering:

  • Should I just get a helmet with an internal sun visor instead?
  • Or get both a tinted visor and a clear visor?

I’d also love if the helmet matches the silver/black aesthetic of the XSR.

Right now I’m mainly considering:

  • SMK Stellar
  • NHK K5R

Would love opinions on these.

For gloves, literally everyone seems to recommend the Viaterra Holeshot gloves.

  • Are the Pro versions worth it?
  • Or are the normal ones enough for a beginner?

For balaclavas, I was looking at the Rynox ones.

I’m still very confused about boots, jackets, and pants though — especially daily usability and styling.

Also:
Are the RE jackets actually good? I keep seeing people selling them for around 5–6k after buying them during the recent RE sale. Are they genuinely worth it at that price, or should I just go for something else entirely?

Budget-wise:
I’m thinking around 30k total for gear.

Roughly:

  • around 5k per item ideally
  • can stretch to 7–8k for something that’s genuinely worth the extra money

So based on my needs, riding style, bike, and budget:

  • what would you recommend?
  • what should I prioritise first?
  • what are things beginners usually overlook?
  • any brands/products I should avoid?
  • any accessories that genuinely improve daily riding comfort?

Would also appreciate:

  • online/offline store recommendations
  • whether to buy at MRP offline or wait for online discounts
  • tips for sizing and fitting
  • Bangalore store suggestions if possible

Since this is my first proper gear purchase, I’d genuinely appreciate solid advice from experienced riders.

Thanks in advance!

Questions from a first time bike/XSR owner

Hellow

This is my first "motorbike" after transitioning from a 2009 Suzuki Access 125. While I am absolutely loving the experience, I have a few confusions that I'd like help with.

  1. RPM - On neutral and stationary the meter is usually at 1.5k. There was once after a long drive that I even saw touch 2k. The manual does say between 1-1.5k is normal but what the general opinion and what should I do?
  2. Trip F meter - It automatically kicks in when I reach reserve and starts counting. But sometimes, when I've switched the bike off and ride the next time the meter resets. I even experienced it resetting mid ride. Also its not consistent on when Trip F automatically switches on?
  3. I dropped my bike twice last month. Just simple imbalance while taking it off a slope. It didn't violently crash but leaned and fell in slow motion 🥲. I noticed after this 2 things and I am not sure if I am just being paranoid - the back brake lever may have bent slightly inwards (can it be fixed?). After a 20km or so ride when I hit the kill switch, the coolant sound would start but it didn't yesterday.
  4. Can 1 or 2 happen because of the fall? 🐵
  5. I've only done 1.6k km in 3 months, the bottom of the exhaust pipe has started to show corrosion.

Halp 😕 ... Thanks in advance

300KM ride after 1st service.

I rode 300 km from my home to workplace just after having the 1st service done the day before.

Nothing dramatic on the way, the bike behaved as usual.

Things I have noticed, that may help someone oneday.

✴️Pillion seat is uncomfortable as compared with the front.

✴️Returned mileage between 40 kmpl to 45 kmpl (Hit high 90s many times)

✴️ Surprisingly zero heating blow to my leg.

✴️Rear view mirror is blurry at high speeds.

✴️With the right posture fatigue can me minimized.

2nd servicing

Do I need to change the oil filter in the 2nd servicing? (In the manual it said the next change in at 5000 km but my odo is at 1900km and I have changed the filter on 1st servicing at 700km)

And should I get the air filter cleaned (in manual it said it can't be cleaned but it should be changed instead)
