Choco 9y 8m had his final sleep
2 days after the visit to ER vet, Choco was unable to get up or eat and take his tablets. We made the difficult decision to lay him to rest this afternoon as he was starting to have repeated seizures. It was the kindest thing to do, to not prolong his suffering.

💓 In Loving Memory of Choco ❤️
To our dearest Choco,
You were the steady heartbeat of our home—a Labrador with a spirit as warm and golden as your name.
Whether you were supervising the kitchen while the scent of strawberry cheesecake filled the air, or simply resting your head at our feet, your presence was a constant reminder of what pure love looks like.
You lived your life with a quiet elegance and a heart that was always full. You were a patient brother to us and a faithful companion, and a "Good Boy" in every sense of the word.
Thank you for every wag, every gentle nudge, and the years of joy you brought into our lives. You are now free from suffering, and you are forever in our hearts.
You were so very loved.

After 2 months of the medication completely changing his personality, on his last day he was fully lucid and back to himself. I'm going to miss him so much.

Is it time? Or should we try more meds
Choco our beloved chocolate Labrador (9.5yrs) had his 1st seizure March 5th. He had 3 seizures in 4 days and we started phenobarbital.
His character completely changed. He used to be the most calm and chill and quiet dog. After taking medication he became extremely anxious and was whining and pacing all the time.
2wks later, another seizure. 2 wks after that, he had 5 seizures in 4 days.
Vet suggests changing meds to Zonisamide/zonegran. 1 week after he has 4 seizures in 3 days.
Choco can't stop pacing. He was pacing for 11 hours. When his legs finally gave out, then he had a brief nap. And would go straight back to walking around aimlessly.
2 days later, he started pooing and weeing in the house.
2 days after that, he has 1 seizure every 24hrs. Yesterday he couldn't get up after a long time as his legs likely felt like jelly from all the pacing. His appetite also dropped. Which is HUGE because we all know Labradors love their food!!
Today he was stumbling into walls, had a seizure, followed by not being able to get up, whining and even screaming. At this point I called the nearest emergency vet and we took him in. The vet said it is likely not idiopathic epilepsy (as diagnosed by a chain brand vet clinic) but more likely to be brain tumor as the medications are not working at all. They gave us some keppra and gabapentin to help him get some rest. Vet also mentioned quality of life and whether going to sleep is the kindest thing to do.
I'd love to hear thoughts from you all. I am not entirely shocked by the brain tumor but it hit home that we may lose him so quickly. It's only been 2 months since the seizures.
Emergency vet also mentioned potentially adding meds (steroids of some sort) to help the tumour shrink slightly but unknown if it would actually help.
Choco is my mums dog and she is devastated by the news, but at the same time she is also quite burnt out from looking after him. None of us are sleeping and we are physically and mentally and emotionally exhausted.
If anyone has any advice or words of wisdom, please share 🙏
