New sE V8?

So I have seen and read the marketing fluff about the new V8, but I cannot de-cypher the fluff. Is it just an excuse to release a "new" microphone and charge more money?

Disclaimer: I have been impressed with sE mics, the V7 in particular are staples for the live shows I put together in untreated rooms. So I'm the last person to poop on sE but I'm really confused about what the selling point is.

Crazy idea: tom/snare mic for vocals?

Hear me out— this is a little nerdy. An sE V7X mic (nominally for instruments) makes a pretty good vocal mic if the grill is replaced with a V7 vocal mic grill. The V7 grill is larger and the greater volume of air reduces plosives. The result is, as far as can be discerned, a V7 "Miles Kennedy" edition, basically a V7 with an extended bass response (see link below).

The sE V Beat mic (for drums) uses the same capsule and grill as the V7X, and thus a V7 (vocal mic) grill will fit on it (as I have confirmed). If attached to a regular mic stand, this results in a much lower profile microphone and the bass response can be tweaked on the board.

So that's my plan and I will report back later. I just need to make sure the vocalist won't expect to hand hold the mic :)

Trash Diva at the Moose House (Baltimore)

You don't get a windmilling banana except at smaller DIY shows. This was going to be at a skatepark but rain moved it to a tiny room at a recording studio behind an autobody shop. Holler if you've been there.

Shots take with a Sony 14/1.8GM on an a1ii.
