Peloton Workspace Evolution for a WFH cyclist.
Over the past several years I've adjusted from my riding style from a zones 3-5 indoor bike to a strong zone 1/2 higher-resistance/lower cadence Peloton workspace. I work from home and prefer to have scenic Peloton rides while I work (Zone 2) & participate in conference calls (Zone 1).
Here's my evolution over the past 6,000-ish relatable miles:
- Pre-2021: Under-desk cycle, right concept for me but hated the configuration so seldom used.
- 2021-2024: Graduated to a Peloton and often demo'd a small wooden desktop that laid over the handlebars. Pedals changed to flats & saddle changed to a Brooks indoor model.
- Overall it worked but I'm not a fan of working from a laptop for extended sessions, ended up getting sore wrists.
- 2024-present (mid-2026): A backwards facing Wahoo cycling desk standing over a lowered Peloton handlebars. 43" 4k tripod monitor that's positioned directly above the touchscreen. This allows me a nice single monitor along with cordless keyboard and mouse on the Wahoo.
- Overall, it's a great proof of concept but the desk wobbles at it's peak height and feels/looks cheap, plus it's a pain to keep clean. The 10" x 24" usable desk space feels cramped with a trackball mouse & small Mac keyboard.
- Current evolution concept:
- Ergh, kindly further modify the Peloton. Being a handyman/techy dude with a tape measure: Obtain a narrow & very sturdy stand-up desk, which would position over front of the Peloton's frame and my knees as I pedal. The handlebar/screen mount would be removed as no longer necessary. The touchscreen cleverly hides a standard 4" VESA tv mount, so I'm hoping to have just enough cable to re-mount to a VESA monitor stand, clamped to the desk.
Has anyone tried an under stand-up desk concept before or am I entering unchartered waters?
Edit: I recall my wrists getting sore during extended sessions when using the wooden tray. It's much like holding your hands out straight, with limited wrist/forearm rest, for an hour +.
