How to stay focused and positive on set when the producer SUCKS

Currently in production for a small student film, I am production designer. I get on well with the director, but this producer is one of the rudest people I’ve ever met. Completely devoid of passion. Just mean and dismissive all the time.

Had several conversations with director about this, we feel the same. Anytime we very politely give feedback to producer, they cannot handle it and it just gets worse.

Yes, since this is for film school we will be mentioning to professors and tutors. But, I need practical advice on how to stay positive and focused when dealing with such a shitty producer. Me and director want to have a welcoming atmosphere, everyone performs their best when they feel comfortable and safe.

Producer of a short film - is it ok if I get “story by” or “created by” credit?

I am a producer of a short, the idea is mine and I have been involved across all aspects of production, I work closely with director, animators, editors and sound designers. Director wrote a script, so of course getting written by credit. On one hand I feel bad asking for this credit as I don’t want to undermine the work of others, but I have come up with all major story beats. This is for film school, but have been told our project has potential and we should submit to festivals, would crediting change when we involve unions or a distributor?

Update: had a quick chat with the director and they said “well yeah of course”, idk what I was so worried about 😅
