AWR: N is for Nutrient Paste

A colonist inspects her daily meal, with little enthusiasm.

I've never used nutrient paste dispensers in RimWorld. I imagine it must be very useful on biomes where food is scarce or for something like a permanently spacebound playthrough. Not me though, I like forests, jungles and swamps, maybe an arid shrubland, so food is not usually a problem in my games.

Also yes, I know beagles are not a dog breed in RimWorld, but I just love these guys too much and it felt like an oportunity to add one :p

AWR: M is for Mechanoid

A mechanized army crosses a body of water in the middle of the night to terrorize a human settlement.

There was no other thing I wanted to depict for the letter M, (sorry muffalos, you kinda weird me out). Probably the most persistent threat RimWorld has: they don't feel pain and never retreat, fire does nothing to them and their weapons are very strong.

I know that in-game, pathfinding would never have a mechanoid army cross a body of water like this: they'd go around. I chose this interpretation for two reasons: First, I wanted the army visible at a distance (represented by the red dots in the background) to sell the vastness of the army while also wanting the "mechanoids emerge from water" raid type represented at the same time and second, because the idea of an unstoppable robot, unbothered by a whole lake in their path is pretty scary.

Hope you enjoy!

Alphabet With Rimworld: L is for Luciferium

Luciferium Mechanites attach themselves to red blood cells, enhacing their effectiveness.

The devil's deal.

I feel like showing an unique perspective for this one. I could show a pawn under the effect of the drug, or try and draw... whatever shape luciferium comes in. Pills? Capsules? I figured a closer look left me room for interpretation. I wanted the mechanites to look red (obviously), robotic and threatening at the same time, hence the metallic-like shading and the bright red thorns all over them.

I think it works well.

What's an event that is technically good but it just annoys you when you get it?

Mine is "[Insert useless animal here] self-tamed!"

Like, you hear that "ding" notification and go "Oh! Oh, nvm."

AWR - K is for Killbox

The anvil was maybe a bit much.

There isn't much in the official entries beggining with K that I feel like representing (I ain't drawing some damn Kibble, come on), but despite not having an official, in-game name, the killbox is very iconic of RimWorld, so it more than deserves to be represented here.

I went for a more silly design, going for the looney tunes-style bear trap and hanging anvil, as well as the colonists' design that closely match the actual, in-game sprites.

Barbwire too, for good measure.

Datable and sexy nociosphere [NSFW for anatomy and suggestive pose]

Inspired by this reddit post here.

I had to take a break from the Alphabet in RimWorld for this one.

Too funny not to draw :p

Alphabet With RimWorld - J is for Jump Pack

A colonist uses his jump pack to quickly close the distance between himself and an enemy raider.

Pretty light on the background for this one, but I felt like the guy being the sole focus of the piece adds a lot.
I tried to make the jet pack really bulky to give it some real sense of potency and tried to make the guy look battle-read: flak helmet, flak vest (I should probably have opened his duster a bit more, so the vest is more visible) and ofc the duster is hyperweave.

It was fun to draw a more anatomically corret pawn than the ones I usually make for these. I feel like the cutesy, cartoony ones better suit the silly moments of RimWorld: I wanted this guy to look more serious by contrast while still keeping the round head and beady eyes typical of the game.

Oh! And this one is scaled by 8x, up from 6x like the last one. Hopefully no more compression issues!

Can highmates psychically bond with hussars?

Highmates can bond with anyone they first romance with, right? But every hussar is psychically deaf, so how would it work? Does the romance attemp succeed without forming a bond? What happens in this scenario?

(Not sure if I tagged this correctly, sorry if I didn't)

AWR: I is for Ikwa

A young tribal scout spots a vulnerable settlement for her fellow tribesmen to raid.

Sometimes, an idea forms in my mind and I just have to draw it. The Ikwa is probably not the most noteworthy weapon in RimWorld by any metric, but once this image formed in my mind I had to give it life: The idea of a tribal in the arid shrublands with nothing but her trusty spear felt really cool to me!

I was debating what sort of vest to give her for the longest time, bouncing between tribal masks, headdresses and so on before ultimately deciding that the simple tribalwear was enough.

I've upscaled the image to 6x its original size, up from 4x. Let's hope it doesn't get super blurry like the one from yesterday!

AWR: H is for Horseshoe Pin

Some new arrivals try to pass the time and come to terms with the fact that they are stuck on a fetid, disease-ridden swamp.

This is one of the entries nobody guessed right (that I've seen, at least.)
Probably because there are many more exciting things to see on RimWorld, but I do like the idea of representing what is possibly one of the very first moments in anyone's starting colony.

For this one, I felt like the environment would provide more interesting visual appeal than the game itself, so I felt like representing a swamp biome with lots of willow trees.

It is one of my favorite biomes thematically, so it had to feature somewhere!

AWR - G is for Gravship

A gravship lands on a glowforest and its crew start exploring the surroundings.

The Grav ship felt like an obvious choice this time around: The most important and coolest feature of the Odyssey DLC. I tried to give it a more cohesive design, different from what we typically come up with in the game and some details such as a cockpit, a boarding/disembarking ramp, headlights and so on.

The gravcore being prominently visible felt like a good idea and the colonists being very tiny helps in selling the scale of the ship.

Oh, and of course they landed on a Glowforest: not only is it another fun addition from Odyssey, but it too starts with a G.

See you in the next one!

AWR: F is for Firefoam

Alphabet With RimWorld: F is for Firefoam.

A colonist is pleased with himself after saving some crops. His friends are not too amused, though.
(Hey, he did save the crops, tho)

My initial version of this image did not read as well as I wanted: I only had a foamy mess of firefoam with colonists' eyes popping here and there from it, but it became hard to tell what was going on, so I opted to more clearly represent each individual by using colors so they stand out more.

AWR - E is for Eating without a table

An unlucky colonist fails to get a seat at the table in time and resents her friends.

One of the "staple" memes of RimWorld and as such, it must be represented.

I drew four people having a good time over a meal while the lone colonist in the background sulks. Felt like adding a prosthetic arm to one of the guys, to make the piece feel a bit more "RimWorld" in nature. I think it works out well.

AWR: D is for Drop Pod Raid

A colonist watches as the drop pods carrying armed raiders breach the clouds and descend into the base.

Probably one of the worst ways to get raided in the game. I heard that long ago Mechanoids had the ability to raid like this, but it was removed at some point. Glad I didn't get to experience these :p

Quick update: I got up to letter N yesterday, so not many more to go. I'll still post one a day as to not spam the server.

Several people already guessed correctly what the next entry is going to be (including one redditor for this one you're seeing today), but there are still entries nobody has guessed correctly (yet).
Stay tuned!

AWR: C is for Caravan.

A group crosses a desert transporting goodies and prisoners. What shall their fate be?

Caravans have always been a fascinating aspect of rimworld for me. The idea of crossing large paths of uninhabited land to trade stuff. It really feels like some adventure.

I added some prisoners to the back too, being dragged by the rider on horseback. Will they be sold as slaves? Or maybe they failed to ambush the caravan and are being taken back to the colony as prisoners?
Who knows.

AWR - B is for Boomalope

Another Alphabet With RimWorld entry, this time: B is for Boomalope

An animal that produces chemfuel, but explodes upon death, as this colonist just found out.

Alphabet With RimWorld: A is for Antigrain Warhead

I started a new pixel art series I'm calling "Alphabet With RimWorld", which is a game I enjoy.

I'll be posting one piece a day for each letter of the alphabet. Today, A is for Antigrain Warhead, as a Raider learns first hand its destructive power!

Suggestions for the upcoming letters are welcome but do keep in mind:

1- I'm up to letter J now and I'm keeping it as a one post a day thing as to not spam the subreddit.
2- Ultimately, I decide what gets made, so no getting mad if your suggestion wasn't chosen.

I hope you enjoy it and I'll see you tomorrow with another one!

[Fanart, SPOILERS] Beastium Mina

Pixel art of Mina's transformation once she obtains all 6 Beastium.

u/rpvarela — 29 days ago

It is finally done!

I hope you all enjoyed this little journey with me as much as I enjoyed making it!

Just two notes, tho:
1- Several people asked about the void zone. I decided to skip it, for two reasons: 1- it'd ruin this neat 5x4 grid I made with the cubes and 2- there really isn't a whole lot of interesting things to see there. It'd just be a black, empty cube with one ghost leviathan and that didn't sound fun for me.

2- You'll notice I actually went back and added textures and tweaked some very minor things in earlier cubes. The rocks in safe shallows, kelp forest and grassy plateaus specifically were looking pretty bland.

Thank you Subnautica Reddit community for accompanying me in this!
