Discomfort in ball of foot/toe pads

I’ve developed a new discomfort for long runs. I’ve been running for over a decade and never had pain before. I’ve noticed that on long runs (14 miles and up it seems) I get the worst feeling under my toes and the ball of my foot. It kind of feels like the socks are bunching up, if that makes sense? It starts to hurt but not like an injury more like there’s something in my shoe and I can’t get it out. But I wear toe socks so that’s not possible since there’s no extra fabric. Trying to narrow down what’s causing this

  1. The shoes: I used to wear only zero drop shoes now I’m wearing ASICS Novalast, gel nimbus, and superblast. Is the higher drop putting more pressure on my toes? Or is this something specific to asics?

  2. The toe socks: since they separate each toe could they be putting pressure there at the ball of the foot? I’ve always worn toe socks and never had any issue in the past. Also I don’t even know how you don’t get blisters between your toes without them

Has anyone else dealt with this? If so does anything fix it? Or any thing to quickly make the pain go away during a run?

I have a marathon in about 10 weeks so right now I’m just running through it and ripping the shoes off as soon as I get home. But it definitely makes the last 4ish+ miles of long runs miserable.

I will say once I’m barefoot for a few minutes the pain is gone and doesn’t persist throughout the day or anything like that which is why I’m kind of leading to the shoe/socks. I know it’s not an injury because my runs during the week are completely fine and when I stretch or roll out of my foot there’s no pain either.

Choosing my marathon shoe ASICS Novablast 5, 6, or SB 3

For starters I’m a big runner (220-230 pounds) and slow at that. My paces range from 11:30-15:30. My goal marathon pace is 13:44 (6 hours) for my first. I am a run walker using the Jeff Galloway method.

I typically run in Altras but long story short after an injury during my last half marathon in March tried a more cushioned shoe just to finish and fell in love with the Novablast 5. They have carried me across 2 half marathons and most of long runs for this marathon cycle (up to 15).

I want a dedicated long run shoe so I went to Fleet Feet to try the Superblast 3. I guess they were out of stock because they convinced me I NEEDED the novablast 6s instead. I’ve tried them for long runs, easy runs, and speed work. Love them for speed work. At slower paces I noticed my toes feel weird like there’s pressure from the ground (if that makes sense?). The 5s do not feel like this to me and felt perfect from day 1.

In search of my strictly long run/race shoe as my 5s reach the end of their life I’m left wondering which to get.

LOVE the 5s but worry I’m too big for the marathon distance in them. Will I adjust to the 6s?

Everyone recommends the SB for long runs and I’m wondering if I should give them a shot but also if they would have the same toe feeling as the 6.

Alternatives to The Feed

Okay I am absolutely fed up with The Feed and their horrible customer service that continues to get worse. I’ve been a customer for years but I can’t do it anymore. So suggestions for alternatives. Where do you get your fuel and hydration? I guess I could go straight to the suppliers but I don’t have the space to buy in bulk. For the record I use Tailwind, Amacx, and Carbs Gels. Occasionally cliff blocks but those are cheaper at Walmart.

Calendar from Garmin Connect not syncing to forerunner 265s

I’ve had my watch for going on 2 years now and this is the first time I’ve had any real issue that I couldn’t fix after google search.

I have a third party running app and a garmin strength plan that sync to my calendar. Went to do my strength today and noticed it wasn’t there. Checked the calendar and got “download calendar” but I do. It was literally there this morning in my morning report. I’ve restated the watch, synced it and still nothing. It’s on the calendar in Garmin Connect. Any tips to get it back on my watch?

ETA: the watch is synced. It’s just calendar. The workouts I did this morning are showing in the app, but still no calendar.

Second edit. Reset and deleted all data. Repaired it and still won’t download calendar.

Getting fitted for shoes

This is more of a question combined with a mini rant.

I live in the middle of no where so I have to drive 2 hours to get fitted. I got fitted twice at FleetFeet and they told me
Brooks Glycerins
Altra Torin
Ascics gel nimbus
Altra experience flow 3

I already wear all of these except the gel nimbus. But these shoes are incredibly different. The Torin is zero drop shoe while the glycerins are like 8mm if I remember correctly. Altras have notoriously wide toe boxes, in other brands I wear men’s so they are wider. I tried the gel nimbus and after a 5 mile easy run they are so narrow and uncomfortable and wayyyy too soft. My go to shoes are Altras unless I’m injured and want a max cushion shoe.

My question is what is this based on? Because this seems so random. Everyone always says get fitted but it seems like they said “heavy runner needs max cushion shoe” and ran with that. And I low key think they only recommended altras because that’s what I walked in wearing.

Was this just a bad experience? I feel like I’ve had better just trying random shoes. My coach keeps saying I shouldn’t wear zero drop shoes but they are only ones that I don’t get blisters and have long runs don’t have any pain in my legs. So I wanted to try something else.

Tan fitness

Any reviews/opinions on this gym? I saw they have a sauna and that’s really all I want from it. I have a membership at the Centre which is fine but I really would like to use a sauna
