The air quality sucks, but this smoke makes the sun look neat right now.

Zoomed in on the sun here in SW Denver. I'd rather have no fires and better air quality, but the sun and sunsets have been cool to see this summer.

Former CBI analyst pleads guilty, faces maximum of 16 years in prison

Missy Woods may have falsified DNA evidence in as many as 1500 cases. She will be sentenced in September after pleading guilty to 4 counts (many others were dismissed as part of the plea deal). She will serve at least 8 years and as many as 16 years.

Seems like the punishment is not going to fit the crime in the case.

At what age did you first feel old?

I am closer to 50 than 40, but I still feel 25 most of the time. I have some more aches and pains and am not as fit as I once was, but I haven't ever felt old.

I meet people my age, and some of them seem much older than I perceive myself. Age is largely a state of mind, I realize, but eventually I expect to feel like an old person. I wonder when that will be.

I'm curious -- at what age did you first feel old?

New Mural at Broadway and Colorado Ave.

The ski store at the corner of Broadway and Colorado Ave. has an epic new mural painted across the front. Whoever painted this really captured the beauty of a Colorado sunset.

Thought you guys might want to check it out. It's on the west side of Broadway a few blocks north of Evans.

Colorado ballot envelope colors are a sorting tool, not a conspiracy

TL;DR: Ballot envelopes have certain color markings to help election judges sort ballots and make sure voters who are unaffiliated or have yet to provide ID to vote are processed correctly. Color differences are not to tell postal workers which ballots to throw in the trash.

Can't we ever just have nice things?

This is the park across from the College View Rec Center in SW Denver.

The city came out last fall and planted a bunch of new trees. This was excellent because many of the trees in the park are old, sick and dying. Nice, right?

Well, some jack ass decided it was a good time to snap one of these new trees. I don't say anything when people drink shooters and throw the bottles all over the basketball court. I just clean up the park and be a good citizen.

This really pisses me off, though. Can't we ever just have nice things?

Where are the miller moths?

TL;DR -- Warmer, dryer weather has caused a reduction in the time miller moths spend in Denver. They are important to the ecosystem, harmless and get on their way quickly, so be nice to them.

Denver tornado sirens sounded 'inadvertently'

Three false alarms in six months. Denver has got to better, man.

These warnings have got to be timely and accurate. Too many false alarms, and people are going to ignore the legitimate ones.
