Getting the first paid beauty deal is usually the hardest part because you don’t have client work, results or testimonials yet an this is the approach I’d use:
Pick a specific beauty angle Don’t present yourself as someone who creates content for every beauty product imaginable. Choose something that fits you naturally, like: -Acne-prone skin -Curly hair -Sensitive skin -Makeup for beginners -Affordable beauty -Men’s skincare -Mature skin It gives brands a clearer reason to choose you.
Create 10 sample videos You don’t need to wait for a brand to hire you before making a portfolio, you can use products you already own and create: -A skincare routine -Problem-solution video -Voiceover video -Two or three different hooks for the same product Clearly label them as samples rather than pretending they were paid collaborations.
Make your portfolio easy to scan A brand should understand your style in less than a minute so put your strongest videos first, mention your niche and make your contact information obvious. Create it with clean Canva page
Contact brands that already use UGC Look for brands that already post creator videos on TikTok or Instagram and run UGC-style ads. They already understand the value of UGC, so you don’t need to educate them from zero. 5)Start with smaller brands The large beauty brands receive thousands of pitches so start with smaller skincare, makeup and haircare companies, are usually easier to reach and may be more willing to test a new creator. You can find them through TikTok, Instagram, Meta’s ad library, ecommerce stores and UGC platforms like SideShift.
Don’t send a generic pitch Avoid messages like: “Hi, I love your brand and would love to collaborate” but mention a real product and give them a specific idea. For example: “I saw your cleanser is made for sensitive skin. I’d love to create a free short video starting with the mistakes people make when washing irritated skin, followed by a natural product demo.” That immediately shows that you understand content and aren’t sending the same message to everyone.
Follow up A lot of creators send one email and assume the brand isn’t interested. You need to follow up after around five to seven days with a short message. Don’t send five paragraphs or act annoyed, just sometimes the first email was missed.
Be careful with gifted offers A gifted collaboration can make sense when you want the product. the brand fits your portfolio or the deliverable is simple, but when the brand wants several edited videos, raw footage, revisions and paid usage in exchange for a $20 product is not fair at all
Clarify the deal before filming Don’t assume everything is included in the base rate so before accepting, ask about: -Deliverables -Revisions -Deadline -Payment (performance based for example) -Usage rights
Make the first deal easy for the client Reply quickly, follow the brief, deliver on time and organize the files properly. Your first client can become a repeat client or give you a testimonial, which is more valuable than squeezing every possible dollar out of one first deal.
Use the first campaign as proof After the content is published, ask for any results they can share. Save: views, watch time, engagement, clicks, conversions and positive feedback Then add the campaign to your portfolio and use it to pitch the next brand. The first deal often comes from a combination of decent samples, targeted outreach and a lot of messages that go nowhere. Don’t expect every brand to reply, but don’t send hundreds of lazy pitches either.
