First CT Scan since Total Pelvic Exenteration!

First CT Scan since Total Pelvic Exenteration!

Hello all!

I wanted to update sooner, but my mother unfortunately passed away on the 18th, and it's been a really rough June. She had a fall in the kitchen, hit her head, and ended up with a cervical spinal cord injury which resulted in emergency surgery, but she just didn't recover well over all and opted to go into hospice where she spent her last 5 days.. at home surrounded by all of us. It's where she wanted to be. She was a really good sport about everything though, she felt she lived a very good life and at that point she was 'bored of waiting to pass', she was so light hearted about it all at the end of her life. I'm gonna miss her so much! She was 78 years old and we'll be having her wake/funeral this coming Sunday/Monday. ♥

Context: Diagnosed with Stage 4 Cervical Cancer in February 2025. Did chemo radiation from February until mid April, was in remission until December, where they found a localized mass. Was offered to do surgery (TPE) with curative intent, or try treatment to just keep it under control until treatment decides to no longer work.. then I just pass away. I went the surgery route. Got a 2nd opinion at MD Anderson in Houston and they agreed with surgery. Got it done March 16th, and.. now I'm here!

I had an appointment on June 13th for my first CT scan at MD Anderson and the main thing that matters is: * No metastatic disease identified in the chest, abdomen or pelvis. *

So far, so good!

Double ostomy life has been pretty chill. I've found that joggers are the best thing to wear with 2 ostomy bags, I also found a brand of shorts that also fit extremely well. Already completely comfortable with managing my colostomy and urostomy, the only things that suck lately are my labor-like abdominal cramping! The whole thing with my mom's hospitalization, then hospice, then passing was SO hard on me.. extremely stressed out, depressed, barely eating.. then coming to terms with everything and going back to normal eating and what not, my poor digestion has been completely thrown off and it's definitely going through it haha. Hopefully the next few days things balance out.

My oncologist has me scheduled for scan every 3 months at this point.. so I'll have another CT scan in September + a physical exam. But other than all that, no cancer currently detected!

I was also glad that I was able to tell my mom "I had my scan and the cancer is gone!" even though I know no one's really ever out of the woods until you hit that 5 year mark.. but I'm happy she passed knowing her baby is 'cancer free.'

Hope everyone else is doing well on their journeys and I hope my journey helps others! ♥

5 year upgrade + 'push' present for dealing with cancer surgery!

i've been wanting a bezel elongated cushion for almost 2 years, my husband told me to wait, of course. ended up with cancer diagnosis february last year and had a recurrence in december which led me to do the last thing to try and save my life: surgery. now i'm living life as a double ostomate, hopefully cancer free but not out of the woods just yet. need 5 years of clear scans to be 'cancer free'.

our anniversary is actually in november, but since the whole surgery ordeal, my husband told me to go ahead and get my ring. worked with fiorese (as always) and got my ring in about 1 month.

she's a 4.52 carat, size 6us, E color, VVS2, omc elongated cushion in 14k rose gold bezel setting. i originally was looking for a brilliant, but decided to give omc a try since my original ering is brilliant already. love the chunky white and rainbow flashes, definitely a different feel from brilliant.

my og ring (on the top) is a 3 carat brilliant oval, H color, VS1, Ex/Ex on 14k rose gold solitaire setting. ♥

i love both of them and do plan to wear them interchangeably!

5 year anniversary upgrade!

my original ering is a 3 carat oval solitaire with a hidden halo in 14k rose gold, vs1, h color, ex/ex and.. almost 2 years ago, i fell in love with a bezel elongated cushion and kept telling my husband i wanted it, but he told me to wait.

last year, i was diagnosed with cervical cancer. treatment shrunk the tumor to where it wasn't showing up on scans, but december 2025 i had a recurrence in the same spot. so, in hopes to be cured, i ended up having total pelvic exenteration surgery and am now a double ostomate as of march 16th this year.

so my husband told me to go ahead and get the upgrade i wanted a bit earlier than expected. our 5 year anniversary is in November, so getting this new ring this soon is kind of like.. 'I'm proud of you for doing such a drastic and life changing surgery and getting through it' on top of our 5 years together.

anyway, this new ring has a whole lot of meaning behind it for me 🥹

she's a 4.52 carat OMC elongated cushion, VVS2, E color, Ex/Ex in a 14k rose gold bezel solitaire setting. i originally wanted brilliant cut, but decided to go with omc since it's different and still looked really pretty to me. plus they were on sale haha

this is the video they sent me! i will definitely post a video of my own once i get it later this week, i can't wait to see the sparkles!

9 weeks post op: Total Pelvic Exenteration

context: diagnosed in february 2025 with stage 4 cervical cancer caused by HPV-16 (squamous cell). did the full treatment: chemo, radiation, and immunotherapy. clear scans in may and june (or was it july?) and had a localized recurrence in my cervix found in December 2025. basically in the same spot. oncologist told me i had 2 options: surgery or treatment. surgery would be a chance at a cure, but not guaranteed, and treatment would be to just keep cancer controlled for as long as possible.. then ya know, when you run out of options, hospice. i went the surgery route, of course!

i'm 9 weeks post op and wanted to update on my surgery!

i'm doing extremely well this far out. i can basically eat majority of things i was eating before, i just need to be careful with foods that don't digest well.. corn, for example. or anything with 'skin' like apples, potatoes.. those need to be peeled.. or even stuff like lettuce, cabbage, celery.. those things are harder to digest. blah! i can also do all my etsy shop stuff without any issue. some things i need to be careful with though are like.. bending over too far, lifting something too heavy, using my abdominals too much. hernia's are a big part of my 'must avoid' list now. i also need to probably adjust my wardrobe a little bit. invested in some joggers and shorts that are stretchy in the waistband and are a bit more lose at the bottom. gotta make room for the bags!

sitting is also a pain in the back. and sometimes even my butt. if i sit for too long, my back starts hurting really bad. my tailbone hurts too. definitely my body trying to compensate for my abdominal surgery.

but aside from all that, i don't mind the bags much. i sometimes forget they're even there if i'm super occupied. i once was playing so much nintendo switch i forgot about my urostomy bag and that thang got EXTRA full.

changing my bags has also gotten so much easier, especially now that i've swapped to 2 piece systems. i've also gotten the hang of measuring, cutting, prepping all my stuff for the changes. i can get everything on brand new in probably like 15 to 20 minutes.. changing just the bag takes less than 5 minutes, so it's really not that bad! definitely WAY better than having cancer.. or dealing with cancer. i'll take these bags any day.

i'm also very happy with my decision to even get this surgery. the first few weeks were really tough, but i ain't no weak ass bitch and i got through it. hopefully here on out is smooth sailing! just need to keep getting cancer free scans at least until the 5 year mark, then i can rest more easily when it comes to cancer stuff.

i'll say this again and again. if you're given the option to have this surgery, i would do it. would i do it again? absolutely. it REALLY isn't that bad at all once you start getting into a better routine, when you start feeling more normal. it's totally worth it! all in the name of being cancer free. fuck cancer, forreal.

i probably won't update on my journey again until my upcoming CT scan in mid june. look out for me around then!
