Any tips on photographing larger diamonds?

My ring is a 4.10 ct lab diamond, E color, VS1 clarity, Ideal cut. And the first photos I took of it look so colorful and rainbowy that I had comments (here on Reddit, not in real life) asking if it was moissanite. I did realize a LOT of pink from my phone case was showing up in the diamond, so I took the phone case off. And that helped but she’s still showing up more rainbowy in the pictures than in real life, and I just want to photograph it how it realistically looks. Any tips? I don’t know if it’s the cut, the size, my phone or what causing it to not photograph well. I’ll include some of the photos I’ve taken.

My first lab jewelry!!

I’ve been eyeing lab grown for so long. I saw this ring 2 weeks ago from a seller named BeyonDiamond. From communications to delivery, everything was so smooth. They did claim that they do made to order and they also take custom orders. I am not sure how real is that but today I received it and I couldn’t be happier. I chose the platinum band because they charge it cheaper than 18K gold so why not.

Quality seems great and the setting is very solid. I will have my GIA friend look at it later this week and see if I should continue to buy from them. So far, very happy!!!!

this stone has taken a whole journey and back!

(A follow up to my previous post) 3 months later, and she's finally done! An exceptionally BIG thank you to Romy and LGG for once again delivering solid work and really going the extra mile* this time :)

*Bit of a backstory - I originally had a local jeweller make a setting for this stone. Without going into too much detail, the ring looked very nice on pick up, but that same day I noticed that part of the underside of the band was hollowed out (to save on material costs, I presume?). (In all fairness, this WAS reflected in the CAD, but the particular colour scheme used on the CAD made it very hard to make out, and it wasn't flagged to me.) In any case, the hollow part of the band made the ring uncomfortable to wear (and I got ghosted when I asked about possibly remaking it...), and I contacted Romy to ask about my options.

At first, I wanted to have LGG make a semi-mount and get the stone reset locally; however, I eventually decided to send the entire ring to LGG as (1) this would allow them to take the stone out of the setting for more accurate measurements, and (2) the gold of the old setting could be recycled into the new ring (Romy kindly offered a discount in respect of the saved material costs). I shipped the ring to China by international post using the address provided by Romy, and after it had arrived safely, Romy arranged for a new CAD to be made. The process after that went very smoothly, and the new and improved ring made it back to me soon after :D

Stone specs: 3.06ct cushion modified brilliant, fancy deep blue, VS2. HPHT, as-grown. Ring size HK 9.25. (IGI cert says this stone comes from Ukraine)

(Swipe right for bonus kitty pic! this is more often the colour I see, because fancy deep blue is really quite dark)

ISO Tennis Necklace Vendors - that adjust the price not weight to gold

Hey everyone - I know gold has been a bit all over the place but gold has been trending down since January and has not hit the near highs that we've seen. Seeing this, it seems like pieces haven't gone down, and the workaround is to make lighter weight jewelry instead of adjusting the price down to reflect how gold has fallen.

Does anyone have a vendor they've worked with that has kept quality/weight and adjusted the price based on gold returning to lower levels in price?

Interested in tennis bracelet

Hi!!

I’m interested in purchasing a traditional tennis bracelet. Does anyone know of any current group buys? Or have gotten a custom one made and recommend a seller.

Also, if you have one in a 2.8-3.3 mm size, can you post a picture of it? Trying to decide on the size I want.

TIA!

Pear diamonds check

Hi there,

It is my first time buying a diamond ever, and it's from an overseas vendor. So I am asking for advice on my favourite subreddit!

I have the choice between those two, do you have a favourite one? I can also ask to see a third one if you don't think they are that good.

Both are E, VVS2, Polish Excellent, Symmetry Excellent

First one (first shot, pointing up): 1.02 carats, 9.11 X 5.69 X 3.42 MM

Second one (second shot, pointing down + third shot are the same diamond ): 1.09 carats, 9.26 X 5.75 X 3.57 MM

If some experts among you have an opinion let me know, especially about the bowtie and the brilliance.

Thank you very much!

Stone check, top 2ct bottom 3ct?

2ct top: 11.55x6.61x4.21,E,VS1
3ct bottom:13.18x7.97x5.08,F,VS1

Meant for a bezel set ring with lots of baguettes, yellow gold, ring size 5.5

What do we think?

I mostly love her but I feel like there is some faint darkness in the center. Not sure what to think about it since it still seems pretty sparkly and it's a 1.5 l/w ratio so there might be no way around that. Lighting is by a window on an overcast day.

Price match

Hi all
I’ve read before that you can get rare carat to price match but the I’ve seen comments about RC giving people a hard time about pricing matching. Does anyone have any experience or tips they can share to get price matching done successfully with RC?

Or do you recommend buying from another LG company that might have better pricing and engagement ring settings overall?

I’ve been looking at….

rare carat,
altura diamonds,
ritani (seems to have the best pricing on diamonds but outdated settings)
LGG,
virabyani,
dionya (have heard they have bad customer service)

Is this too good to be true?

https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPLOGJ5

It says 6ctw lab diamond bracelet only $240 afrter coupon, but the stone size is 2.5mm. How can a 6ctw bracelet using 2.5mm stone?

UPDATES: I got answer from the shop saying it is 6ctw for 7.5inch. But I still suggest getting confirmed by yourself if you feel interested

Station style tennis bracelet quote gut check

I got a quote for an Asscher & round lab diamond 6.75in bracelet in 18K yellow gold. DEF VS 3.5mm asschers and 1.75mm rounds. They approximated the gold weight to be around 12.5g. The quote is $2400. Thoughts?

Edit: sorry guys, this is a local jeweler in my area, they don't really have a web presence but I'll ask about sharing info

My round from Provence is in! (Jason)

I worked strictly with Jason. Was a pleasure to work with. I had a big boo-boo with my wife’s ring size and he was able to make literally a last second change in the process. Quality and craftsmanship is perfect.👌.

Troubleshooting constant mistranslations during CAD process

Has anyone else who’s worked with Gabriel & Co. (or another vendor) on a custom lab diamond ring directly or through a jeweler had issues with the CAD process?

Our jeweler uses G&C for custom pieces and my partner and I are on the 4th draft of our CAD and growing frustrated with the communication process. Every adjustment we ask for is done to the extreme no matter how we describe it or what inspiration photos we show (ex. asking for a VERY slight taper and getting a rendering back with a major pinch),and each time they’ve done a new rendering they’ve made adjustments we haven’t asked for and not adjusted something we did ask for.

Between our most recent CAD and the prior one, I asked them to make our baguette hidden halo a bit more seamless as it didn’t look like any of the inspiration photos I sent in. I said nothing about the silhouette of the basket. They sent a new CAD where they didn’t touch the hidden halo and completely changed the basket. Before that, I asked them to reduce the baguettes to 3 per-side instead of 4 — they reduced to 2.

We were planning to have our ring this past weekend and now the process is taking forever and we’re quickly approaching the point where we run out of free CADs because we have to keep asking them to undo their (or possibly partly our jewelers? I can’t tell where this is getting lost in translation) mistakes. It’s so frustrating and anxiety-provoking and I don’t know what to do.

Has anyone else run into issues like this? I’m wondering at this point if we can get on a call with them or something and work on this together instead of being in a constant game of telephone with a middleman.

Oh boy, I am going from 0-60 thanks to this sub!

I placed a custom ring order with one overseas vendor, will have the CAD any day now and just ordered a second piece with a different vendor, picking the diamond tonight. These are the inspiration pictures my reps are modeling my rings after.

Someone tell me I’m not crazy! 😜
