Can anyone recommend an engineer or team to build a Saildrone-like platform?

I'm looking for an experienced engineer or engineering team to design and develop an autonomous ocean surface vehicle (USV) similar to Saildrone.

The platform will be used for ocean monitoring and carbon dioxide research, with a target deployment of up to six months. It should operate autonomously, use renewable energy (wind and/or solar), support satellite communications, and integrate environmental sensors.

This is a funded, professional project—not a hobby build.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for an experienced engineer or small engineering team to help design and develop an autonomous ocean surface vehicle similar in concept to Saildrone.

Our project focuses on ocean monitoring and carbon dioxide research. The goal is to build a reliable, long-endurance autonomous platform capable of operating at sea for up to six months.

Key requirements include:

  • Autonomous navigation and station keeping
  • Wind and/or solar-powered operation
  • Satellite communications (Starlink/Iridium or similar)
  • Carbon dioxide, weather, and ocean sensor integration
  • Robust mechanical and electrical design for harsh offshore conditions
  • Remote monitoring and control
  • Modular payload architecture

This is not a hobby project. We're looking for someone with professional experience in one or more of the following:

  • Autonomous Surface Vehicles (USVs/ASVs)
  • Marine robotics
  • Naval architecture
  • Offshore engineering
  • Autonomous systems
  • Composite structures
  • Marine electronics
  • Embedded systems and control software

  3. What's the desired q-ty of human agents? - Quantity of human agents dedicated to us I think would be around 5-6.
  4. e-commerce is Shopify? - It’d be around Shopify (e-commerce).
  5. Channels: Live chat, email, Social? – Only inbound phone calls as our email customer service we have a team for emails.
  6. The agent training: is 1 week enough? - In theory yeah one week should be enough
  7. Shopify/CRM: Will access be provided to agents? - Yes and we do have another CRM they'd need to use to process refunds/cancel subscriptions.
  8. What type of products are on e-commerce? - Bible studies, and other complimentary accessories.
  9. The inbound calls will be from private subscribers or companies/enterprises? - Will be from subscribers as we're a DTC e-commerce company.
  10. Do you have 3rd party software available so the team will contact you in case the escalation request arrives? - In terms of escalations it really depends, but we have a set criteria where if it gets too escalated for a certain amount of value then yeah it'd be forwarded to our email team where they can handle it. In theory after some training they can handle those though ideally.
  11. Is it acceptable if the agent team has their own call management solution? - Yes, we'd prefer that actually rather than in-housing the entire call-team right this second. So an agency or call management that already has a team with experience is ideal.
