A sneak peek at my current WIP, thematically appropriate for today 🥲

A sneak peek at my current WIP, thematically appropriate for today 🥲

May we all do our parts to put the fire out.

The FPP block is from SagebrushPatterns on Etsy, it comes in three sizes and I made the smallest one (about 4x6”) for this patch. Fabric is a mix of Ruby Star, Tula Pink, and random solids from my stash.

More hexie progress (+ a sweet baby)

Also lol bought the pattern for the purse I’m making so I can properly see how much more I need to expand my panels. I’m really enjoying this and lol now I’m considering doing something a lot more complex next, maybe Tula Pink’s Nova?

For my fellow Tula Pink fans, which OOP collection would you want to see a Dejavu collection from next? For me it’s Elizabeth

I blame being fascinated with Tudor England as a Youth™️, but this is probably my favorite past Tula collection and one I feel is ripe for the Dejavu treatment.

Me including the selvages in my quilting projects

(Lol ironically I did trim the crusts on this screenshot 😅😂)

Succumbing to the allure of EPP and beginning the process of learning

Making a purse from my leftover Liberty scraps and decided that it’s a fine time to teach myself EPP. I know how to quilt and I’m quite good at bag making, so lol the new skill is limited to EPP panels I have planned for the bag. I work as a professional tailor and I used to do a lot of hand embroidery, so in theory this should be an easy skill for me to pick up 🤞

Also shout out to Tula Pink, these old how to EPP videos she made for Fat Quarter Shop have been extremely helpful for me learning.

One of my friends called my cats the “feline embodiment of kiki and bouba” and they were so correct

Tfw you finish a quilt top, fold it neatly, and a cat immediately sits on it 😂

Please don’t judge my messy craft table 😅

Literally turned around to work on sewing together a label and when I turned back to match it to my quilt top, Halston had claimed occupancy 😂

Help me pick a backing color

Almost done with my Omega quilt (honestly shocked by how quick and easy a make it is) and deciding to try a cuddle backing for the first time because I want to make this blanket extra cozy. I’m so on the fence about which color I like better for the backing 😅

Are you really a millennial maker if you haven’t had at least one convoluted print job needed for a project that you had to navigate at an office supply store because you don’t own a printer

In other news, I have a new half scale sassy FPP project in the works

Love the vinyl sleeve of the Target variant

Also love that she hired a real person to do this! Forgive me, I can’t remember who it was specifically, but the person who designed the packaging came across my instagram feed the other day and I was delighted to see real embroidery involved in the process. And being able to see the messy back is so perfect for the themes of this album.

Some more squiggles- pleasantly surprised by the fabric efficiency of Omega

I bought 15 FQs for the Liberty half of this quilt, which is the amount recommended for the 60x72” sized “large throw”, but I’ve found that it’s very easy to cut the pieces out (for both the 4x4 “standard” blocks and 6x6 “disruptor” blocks) in an efficient manner and 5 FQs (plus the same amount of my solid contrast fabric) is yielding 16 blocks for me. The size I picked is made of 30 blocks, so this is doable in theory with just 10 of my Liberty FQs.

I’m now debating if I want to bump up the size to 72x72” and do 36 blocks and *maybe* have enough left to do a scrappy binding with the remaining Liberty fabrics, or stick to 60x72” and def have enough for binding plus whatever bag making projects I may want to try with the larger amount of leftovers. Hmmmmmm 🤔🤔🤔

Threw together a scrappy pillow sham the other day to match my recently finished quilt

I have some really nice quilted pillow shams from Pottery Barn and I emulated the construction after those, quilting the top part and the envelope back with tie closures. I’m really happy with how it turned out! I’m traveling this weekend and brought my quilt with me for bedding (I’m really picky about blankets and like bringing my own with me when I can), so made this to have a matching pillow with me. Added some more Ruby Star letters to coordinate with the corner words on the quilt itself.

This was a super quick make (did it in just a few hours) because for some reason I cut a bunch of extra squares and border strips, so lol I just put those together. I hope I have enough scraps to make one more to match! I have a throw pillow already mostly done using a block that didn’t make the cut for the blanket.

Finished my Pinkerville quilt!

Pinkerville Quilt Reveal! This one has been a long time coming- pretty sure I bought this fabric as a FQ set (plus some yardage) like 7 years ago when this Tula Pink collection came out and I started this project itself like 2 years ago when I originally was going to make it into a quilt coat and then changed my mind and diverted to just making it a blanket. I can’t remember what pattern I used- I’m pretty sure this one was a “oh I like this design concept, let me just figure it out with math” type project, because I definitely had to figure out the rest of it with math when I found the blocks I had already made earlier this year when going through my sewing supplies.

I had fun incorporating unicorn butt Easter eggs into the patchwork and I’ve become obsessed with using Ruby Star Society letters to add little word motifs into projects. To me, this quilt is mythical creature themed (I adore the little sea monsters!), so I thought adding some X-Files inspired “I want to believe” and a cheerful little “Believe in yourself” corners were appropriate and on theme. I have some matching pillow shams in the works to make this a fun little bed set for the summer ☺️✨

I had it longarmed locally and then I bound it by hand myself, trying out the big stitch method for the first time. Very happy with how crisp my corners turned out! This is only my second blanket sized quilt (lots of bags and apparel using patchwork and quilting in between), and I’m pleased with myself.

Was a lovely day for some hand stitching in the park ☺️☀️🌇

Walked over to the Milwaukee Kite Festival and camped out at a picnic table to work on binding my quilt in the sunshine. Highly recommend this environment for hand sewing, it was delightful (I listened to an audiobook while I was there). First time doing a big stitch binding, but I’m digging it.

Looking forward to my next big project (lol I decided on a purple for this)

I need Ruby Star to do another Selvedge Magic collection but with colorways

I did these fun little word corners on this mythical creature themed quilt (lol yes it’s Tula Pink’s Pinkerville) and I wanted cohesive colors for each corner. Picking out the letters I noticed there were a lot more pink and blue letters, which is fine by me as a pink lover, but lol I think it would be really cool if Ruby Star did a follow up SM collection but with the letters separated into specific colorways.

(I just picked this up from my longarmer and trimmed it, very excited to start binding it!)
