Should I do it?

Looking for some advice and well-grounded knowledge/suggestions on whether I should actually get on GLP-1s. I have a lot of pre-conceived notions about it and feeling really conflicted so maybe looking for information from everyone out there who has PMOS and is on this medicine.

I was diagnosed with PMOS when I was 17. I'm 30 now and I've struggled with irregular periods and all the classic symptoms of PMOS for close to 2 decades now. And the symptoms are just getting worse with age. I have insulin resistance, mild fatty liver, PMDD for months before I finally get my period (3-4 months is where I'm at) and food cravings, weight gain, facial hair, bloating, high cholesterol, chronic hives, the list goes on. I've been asked to lose a minimum of 10 kg which doesn't seem like a lot but I've been genuinely trying for the last 6 years and have made little to no progress. I work out 4x days a week and walk the other days of the week; I eat as 'healthy' as I can and generally have a pretty good lifestyle - I do binge drink once or twice a month socially though which is the only thing I'm trying to change but I'm generally super exhausted with not seeing results.

I recently went to a doctor for the umpteenth time and he diagnosed me with metabolic syndrome and told me, surprise surprise, I needed to lose weight. He then prescribed Mounjaro and told me I'm the perfect candidate.

I'm super worried because I'm only 30 and don't want to be on it for life. I'm also uber worried that once I lose the weight and get off the drug, I'll gain all that weight back and more. We also don't know what these drugs' side effects are in the long term and I'm really worried about that too.

How have your experiences been getting off the drug? If you haven't, would you ever consider it? And should I get out of that mentality too?

Please help me cause I'm really struggling and I'm generally anti- Big Pharma but honestly I feel like I don't have an option anymore.

How do you deal with FOMO in an LDR?

This is gonna be a bit of a long one because I'm giving a lot of context, and also just generally venting.

Let me start off by saying I am no stranger to LDR. My partner and I have been together for 9 years. At the beginning of our relationship, I moved to Australia (we live in a small island in Asia) and we did 4 years of distance while I did my masters. We didn't know each other enough but we instantly clicked. I was just coming out of another long-term relationship and I didn't wanna do distance because it was too taxing but we honestly loved talking to each other so much that we ended up doing LDR without even realising it.

He was so great while I was away. I would visit home only in the summers (3 months at a stretch but only every 9 months), but he was so patient, kind and loving throughout. We barely fought. His life was very stressful with work and family and not much going on on his end but he still never made me feel bad about it. He even let me explore my queer side while I was abroad - something I couldn't do while in my hometown cause it's small, backward and judgemental. He is actually so amazing. He wanted to come visit me many times but never got a visa so the entire 4 years probably felt like a blank for him cause he never got to see my life there.

We closed the long-distance gap in 2021 when I moved back home and for 5 amazing years, we really came into our own. We went through so many things together - family issues, friend dramas, losses of loved ones, an abortion, and many many things that would've otherwise broken some other couples. And the best part is that we have so much fun together. We're known as Bonnie and Clyde among our circles - and people always look at us like the couple to be, the love to find. Even as I write this I'm so in love and grateful I have someone like this in my life. We did everything together and had the most amazing experiences and memories.

Last year, he got an opportunity to go do a fully paid (schol) Masters in the UK for 1 year. I was so excited for him because he doesn't come from a great background and with work being so taxing and demanding, this was an amazing opportunity for him. I think that for the first time in his life, he thought he would get an experience that he could have only dreamed of. We were super solid at this point and had already begun making plans for the future, so i wasn't worried about anything.

But as soon as he left, I became super insecure and weird about things. I started to get mad jealous about the smallest experience he was having and annoyed and frustrated that I wasn't there. Meantime, I was having no new experiences in my hometown. I met the same friends, followed the same routine, ate the same food. I was so bored and didn't have anything to look forward to.

Its been 9 months since he left, and I visited him for 2 months each time during these 9 months. We even travelled in Europe and got engaged! We also purchased a house from our inheritances last month in our hometown so we'll be moving in together when he's back. We're making such big moves and we only have 3 months to go before he's back, but I'm just tripping up over the small things. He loves to have fun (which is why I love him) and explore and go on adventures, but I just get so angry that I'm not there, experiencing these things myself that I ruin it for him. I start projecting my insecurities, bring up dumb shit that haven't even happened. Like I said, he's a great partner but my own insecurities and envy is changing how I'm showing up in this relationship.

I even travelled around visiting friends and family in neighbouring countries or taking on too many projects at work to keep myself busy, but somehow, I always feel like these experiences mean nothing when compared to the life he's living. It sucks, because it ends up ruining how excited he feels that he gets to do these things.

I'm very self-aware of how toxic I'm being but it's just a bad loop that keeps on happening. I keep checking my phone for messages from him, hoping he'll call and keep me around when he can, but of course life gets in the way and we're not a clingy, needy couple. Our security and trust in each other is what has made it work for so many years. But now it feels like I just can't survive these next 3 months (which is really nothing in the grand scheme of things, especially considering everything we have to look forward to).

It's affecting my mental and physical health and I've lost the drive to take care of myself and see to my own ambitions. I hate that. And I want to change.

So how do you guys deal with this FOMO? It's not even busy-ness per se, because he's not working and I work from home so we have plenty of time. It's not clashing schedules nor is it constantly missing each other or being out of sync. It's just this stupid monster that rears its head when he's on a hike or at a rave or with friends that I fell in love with when I was visiting. Because I know I'd be enjoying it for myself too.
