Weird Science: Share the Weirdest Science-Related Claims You've Heard from the PC Side
For you young people, the photo is from the eponymous movie from the 1980s, Weird Science.
It rarely does any good to talk about abortion when the basic facts aren't yet in order. What are the strangest, science-related statements you've heard from the PC side?
The fetus is a parasite. Abortion is just like a vasectomy. Embryo "eggs" are just like chicken eggs.
What are some other bizarre claims you've heard related to the science of embryology and pregnancy?
Catholic Worker Movement
Hello.I am interested in Catholic Worker Movement. There is no their house in my country so it is not easy to reach out them.If you are part of movement or support it,may you type it on comments so I can reach and ask my questions to you.Thanks.
Well that didn't last long! This home was custom built in 2023. The scenario reeks of an out-of-stater with serious buyer's remorse, likely due to one or more of the following epiphanies:
- The epiphany that such a huge percentage of glass siding is fundamentally incompatible with Wyoming winters.
- . . . that down-and-dirty Wyoming Cowboy livin' is fundamentally incompatible with Kardashian-style white-washed walls, furniture, and bedding.
- . . . that maybe privacy is a good thing, after all, and peeping elk (or more questionable species) might see you naked while you do your bathroom business.
- . . . that those weird horizontal storms that sweep through the area will result in a lot of spiderweb chips in those windows.
- . . . that no working stiff from Cody, WY will afford this, and the house is going to fester on the market for awhile. (I'm taking bets. We can ante up with Reddit karma).
For me, it would have been #1 . . . and the utility bill that came with it.

I'm currently job hunting in my local area and researching prospective employers. I've so far encountered three employers owned by private equity firms and hiring social workers. These are agencies working with very vulnerable populations, including prison inmates and children in the foster care system. Agencies and institutions that used to be run by religious groups and secular non-profits are now getting absorbed into the private equity realm, and it's creating concern about higher costs and lower quality of care.
Have any of you researched this topic at length? I did find this paper alarming - https://pestakeholder.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/PESP_Youth_BH_Report_2022.pdf
Apart from researching our employers carefully and refusing to take jobs at private-equity run practices, and assuming that NASW doesn't have our backs, what are some other ways to fight back?
I'd appreciate some positive and productive replies; some cynicism is inevitable, but I'm also tired of rolling over, belly up, and accepting this status quo called late-stage capitalism.
I didn't know about this until recently, although it doesn't surprise me in the least. The American Lung Association gives Boise an F for high ozone days and a D for air particle pollution. https://www.lung.org/research/sota/city-rankings/states/idaho/ada
I notice that our air quality has been pretty crappy for the past few days.
I'm not looking for lazy or cynical answers - tempting to do in a state whose leaders have a history of utter contempt for voters - but what creative, productive ways are there to address this problem? There's not a lot we can do about the prescribed forest burns that will be ignited over the summer, but it still seems like we can take action.
I have an asthmatic kid and frankly want the rest of my family and community to have healthy lungs.
Somebody please remind me when I'm old and wealthy and eccentric that this is very much a possibility! https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1075-Paseo-De-Peralta-Santa-Fe-NM-87501/6832772_zpid/
My son is discerning the priesthood and looking for a solid theology major. Besides the Jesuits schools, (proudly Jesuit-educated here!) which Catholic colleges and universities are a sane option for progressive Catholics? Which ones have a strong bent toward Catholic social teaching? Any to avoid? (Ahem!!!!)
