Nuggets-Watson S&T with Clippers added onto Kawhi to Toronto(Revised

Nuggets-Watson S&T with Clippers added onto Kawhi to Toronto(Revised

Revised to just a 3 team deal

Same deal for Kawhi, I didn’t bother adding all the picks

Clippers pay up for Watson in a S&T offering a ~4/110 and give up Dunn, reroute Dick to Denver, and give up a future first for another young piece

Nuggets get Dunn on a steal of a contract and a future first to make additional moves, they decide to get a first over DJJ in this deal

Pelicans get two valuable firsts, a swap, and Johnson+just expirings for Murphy

Peyton Watson

At this point it seems we’ll most likely make smaller signings to round out the roster but there’s always a chance of a trade or S&T. Since we traded Kawhi I think it’s unlikely we send out assets for someone like Murphy which then makes it more likely we trade Dunn and/or Djj as we continue to get younger

Outside of getting future capital I don’t think there’s many obvious trade targets besides sending them for future draft capital, although im skeptical we could get a first for either.

There’s also been many rumors about us going after Watson this offseason. Please correct me if I’m wrong because I’m not a salary cap expert but I think currently we no longer have the space to sign him and it’s unlikely we could get to that level, which from reports have sounded like 30M+ to get Denver to turn away. Because we no longer have the space to sign him it would have to be a S&T which would also let us keep Mathurin, I think.

We could add a S&T into the Kawhi trade and essentially do either DJJ or DJJ and Dunn for Watson giving him a 30M salary(think it would be 4/110 or so)

So my questions are, are you willing to spend 30M+ for Watson and are you willing to give up DJJ or DJJ+Dunn in a S&T?

Personally I think I’d be okay giving up both in a deal for Watson. It’d be a risk with salary and giving them up but a big upside swing which we’re positioned perfectly to take, based on roster and timeline.

Watson next to Garland and Ingram with one of Mathurin/Wagler/Sanders starting to would be a great young group that would have potential and be exciting

LAC-HOU-DEN

Rockets acquire Kawhi for Jabari, salary, and 1 first round pick+ 2 swaps(one of which being valuable). They also get all defensive bench guard. They keep their core and many of their picks while making a big upgrade to contend. They would likely need Kawhi to extend for at least a year to match up with Durant

Clippers and Kawhi mutually part. Clippers gain a ton of youth+picks and take advantage of the cap savings and go after Watson. Clippers fill out their starting 5 and likely extend DJJ. Watson would be a wild card but they could be in a great position for a quick rebuild. They have to offer 30+ to Watson in order to get him away from Denver

Denver faces losing Watson for nothing as he gets a 30M+ deal for LAC. Instead they take on DFS who is on a non-guaranteed deal after this year so essentially an expiring while getting two good seconds

Kawhi to Houston- LAC/HOU/DAL(Revised)

Slightly reworked from a deal a posted yesterday.

Houston goes all in and creates a great competing roster that is also deep. FVV/Amen/KD/Kawhi/Sengun with Dunn/Reed/Naji/Eason/Adams off the bench is as good as any team. They give up Jabari and picks in order to do so, they also take on a good amount of money by using expectations and mlw to acquire Naji and Dunn. Rockets make a decision and decide to go further all in but keep their core instead of standing pat. This would be betting on FVV returning to at least above average form but is likely the best possible trade they could make

IMPORTANT: I think think would happen only if Kawhi agreed to a 1-2 year extension to match up with Durant.

Clippers mutually part with Kawhi and gain further youth, flexibility, and picks. They get a starting pf and c for a combined ~45M which is a great tool for team building with their eyes pointed to 2027 free agency. Gafford is in his prime while Jabari is still very young and could end up being a great contract and fits great with the team. Clippers gain 1-2 valuable firsts in the deal to(Think they’d want two, Houston would want to send one and that’s where negotiations focus). Garland/Wagler/DJJ/Jabari/Gafford with Sanders/Mathurin/Miller/Baba/YKN is a very young and interesting group that should be competitive. Also, I think this would give them money to sign Watson to 30+ deal which would further improve them(please correct me if I’m wrong but think they could even if they sign Mathurin to ~15M/year and then renounce every else, because of the savings of this deal)

Mavericks get their own first back which they value a lot and a second for Gafford and Naji, 1st and a second is seemingly fair value for them and then DFS and Capela are potentially moveable down the line, DFS is not guaranteed after this upcoming year

Hawks-Pelicans-Clippers

Hawks get Murphy and Dunn for 8 and Risacher, Pelicans move up to 5 to take Ament, potentially ahead of the Nets for Murphy and Missi. Clipper move down 3 to take gamble on Risacher and pickup a younger center

MIA-LAC-DET(Revised)

Miami pivots to Kawhi after missing out on Giannis, getting a similar level player at a much cheaper cost. Miami also gets DJJ which is a huge plus, making Wiggins potentially expendable for other trades or just giving them great wing depth and size they would need. They’d have to get a backup 5 in FA(trade machine doesn’t let Lopez go into the TPE after accepting his team option, otherwise he could have been an option). They’d send Herro to 3rd team for assets to the Clippers and send Ware+13 to the Clippers for Kawhi.

Clippers go young and pick oriented after not agreeing to extension with Kawhi and instead letting him go contend to a preferred destination. They’d get two good young prospects in Ware and Holland + Stewart which will help fill out big rotation, the rest is just filler. They’d also get 1 later lottery pick and an early 20s pick this year. They’d also give up Dunn and DJJ which is a big hit but neither really fit timeline(age/contract) so they cash in on them while they can.

Detroit gets shooting playmaker they need next to Cade and get an All defense level guard in Dunn, and get a great fitting pf through S&T. Essentially for Holland, Stewart and 21

I think Kawhi is worth ~13, Ware, and Stewart and Clippers get 21+ salary for Dunn+ DJJ. The Collins S&T isn’t necessary(can take out Levert) but thought that was a mutually beneficial addition for Detroit and Collins. Heat have to give up Ware and 13 for Kawhi but are able to keep future picks and other pieces for flexibility and other potential deals

MIA-LAC-DET

Miami goes for Kawhi assuming they don’t get Giannis and they get to keep most of their rotation and picks due to lower cost. Miami and Kawhi team up to contend and likely sign extension. Heat also get an all nba defender in Dunn on a great contract. They have to give up Herro, Ware, and 13 but keep everyone else and all other picks. Ware and 13 is a lot for them to consider but Leonard was all nba 2nd team and this gives them a much better overall roster then the Giannis trade, would also have flexibility for other moves(Bringing Norm back and potentially other trades)

Clippers and Kawhi mutually part and Clippers are able to get a solid first and 2 good young prospects+ Stewart which will help shore up their center rotation. They get their center of the future who can likely play with Yanic and a high upside swing in Holland. They’ll also be able to get a good bpa in this draft at 13, either a guard that falls or one of the first second tier guards or a forward. Trading Kawhi is a big decision but this continues to help them retool and get significantly younger and having great young pieces

Detroit acquires Herro for Stewart and Holland. Worth the cost as they keep all their depth and future picks but get a great fitting shooting guard to provide shooting and creation next Cade that they desperately need. Stewart and Holland are valuable but are expendable for an upgrade like Herro

MIL-MIA-LAC

The rumored/likely Heat-Giannis trade with the addition of the Clippers who decide they’d rather have Ware+move down 5 spots over the 5th pick and the choice of the guards. Milwaukee essentially moved up 5 spots in exchange for Ware in the deal(and moved down 3 spots from 10 to 13)

Clippers trade down with Heat(or Bucks)

Clippers are a potential trade down candidate and a center is position of need. Ware could be the type of prospect to add to their core that they’d be willing to move down to. They’d still have a good first and be able to continue building the youth

***Important***
I think this is most likely the Bucks pick and would be an add on to that deal with the Bucks essentially moving up to 5 for 13 and Ware as they opt to try to get a point guard franchise cornerstone. I also think this trade could be appealing for Miami also.

I think this values Ware a bit over two firsts which I think is fair?

Thoughts on this, with either the Bucks or the Heat?

LAC-DAL

Mavericks move up to 5 to select their guard of choice, likely Acuff, Wagler, or Mikel. They keep all future firsts and give up a swap, second, and Gafford+ Naji. This allows them to pair Cooper with another hopeful franchise cornerstone

Clippers would wait till draft night to make sure none of the top 4 falls and them not being blown away by any one or two prospect. This gives them a solid starting center that fits very well and is on a good contract. They also get Naji who is another wing with a bit more handling/creation than they currently have at that spot. The swap and future second are solid value also. More of a player and partial pick return for the Clippers, if they end up keeping Kawhi and want to be competitive they’ll be looking for a center upgrade and Gafford fits great… think a trade down to 9 is worth ~2 firsts which is what this basically is

DET-DAL-LAC

Detroit gives up their first this year and a swap+ salary for Kyrie and get back an early second also. Beal is just salary but would theoretically be good off the bench for them if he has anything left. Kyrie is coming off injury and older but is a cost effective way to add an elite creator+shooter next to Cade which the Pistons need. They also hold on to Holland and future picks so keeping flexibility while being able to bring the rest of the team back

Dallas finds a way to move up to select their guard of choice without giving up any future picks(which they barely have anyway) they give up Kyrie and Gafford to move up 4 spots to the first guard selection of the draft and they also save a ton of money this year and take on no future money(Robinson isn’t guaranteed) so it completely cleans their books. Also pick up a lower value swap with the Pistons. Kyrie is not a long term piece and Gafford might not be either so they use them to secure their cornerstone next to Cooper

The Clippers would only do this on draft night making sure Wilson doesn’t fall to 5. They decide they’re happy with multiple players at 5 so choose to trade down to accumulate more assets. They gain 21 and Gafford who is a solid and cost controlled center in exchange for moving down to 9. By moving down to 9 they likely miss out on Acuff/Wagler/Brown but one of Burries or Flemings will likely be there or they could go with a non-guard

POR-LAC no

Blazers have reported interest in Giannis which means they may also look into Kawhi who is a better fit due to his shooting and would be much cheaper. In this trade they get off Grants contract and give up Sharpe+Yang along with 2 firsts, one of which being a valuable future bucks pic but they keep all of their other picks and Scoot which is a big difference from what they’d have to give up for Giannis. A Lillard/Deni/Kawhi/Camara/Clingan five is lethal on both sides of the ball and a matchup nightmare with them also having Jrue/Scoot/Murray/Rob Will off the bench.

Clippers send Kawhi to what would be a top contender and get a good all around package. They get Sharpe and Yang to add to their young core, have to eat Grants contract but doesn’t ruin their future cap plans given length. They also get a mid first in this draft, their own swap back next year and a future pick

Thunder consolidate their picks to gain a more valuable future first from the Bucks. I think 17, a swap, and a 2nd would be about fair value? Maybe drop the 2nd, also not required for the deal but I think the Clippers would prefer a solid first this year over a future one

LAC-GSW-CHI

Chicago takes on the Moody contract and sends out Smith to move up a few spots in this draft. Moody won’t play this year and isn’t guaranteed to return to playing form after such a bad injury so it’s a risk with him still being on the books but with them rebuilding and it’s worth it

Warriors make massive push to contend. They add Kawhi, an all nba defender in Dunn, and a really good backup 4/5. They give up multiple picks but their swap next year is likely to be about 5 spots(since it’s with OKC) so not super valuable. They give up this years first rounder and a 2028 first rounder and a 2029 swap. They keep all their future picks for when it’s likely to be the post Curry era… maybe this also makes the Warriors more appealing for a potential LeBron destination???

Clippers send Kawhi to an ideal landing spot still in California allowing him the chance to compete. They get a mid round first where they can get a solid wing/big, a future first, and two swaps in years they owe a swap. Butler likely won’t play till late in the year so they have to eat his salary but after trading Kawhi they’re giving up on competing so Butlers expiring isn’t the worst for them

Hawks trade up with Clippers(Revised)

I floated something similar with Bogi last week but Lopez makes much more sense. Also included another framework with OKC involved if Clippers are willing/prefer to eat the Kispert contract for extra value over Risacher(also think that’s fair value for OKC to swap 17 with a future first?)

Hawks move up to get their selection of point guard and give up Risacher and 23 but also get an early second rounder in 36. Lopez is also theoretically a perfect fit in a shooting rim protector with size but he may be washed but fine gamble as matching salary

Clippers gain extra assets to move down a few spots but still guarantee themselves a selection of 2 of the top guards(Wagler/Brown/Flemings/Burries)

*in the other framework OKC cuts necessary salary and gets rid of their second first this year+ a future swap in exchange for an unprotected future Hawks pic(not sure if this is great value or not)

LAC-MIA-TOR

Miami pushes to contend in a const effective upgrade move. They get Kawhi by sending out Herro for pick+ in exchange for taking on Quickleys contract but he does fit better with them, and they get off the Jovic contract. Dunn is an all nba defender who is on a great contract and would be a big rotation piece, Dick would be a throw in and potential depth piece. They give up 1 first and 2 swaps so keep most of their future picks and valuable assets/players

Raptors get a scoring+some making guard they lack who will be a good fit and at worst is an expiring as they get off the Quickley deal. They give up draft capital but get a high 2nd rounder this year, also throw in Dick as sweetener

Clippers and Kawhi mutually part ways and Clippers get a jumpstart on rebuilding while getting two rotation players. Wiggins is a great minutes eater for the regular season as they don’t wanna lose and can always be moved again. Jovic is a bad contract but doesn’t really hurt there plans because it’s small enough. Dunn is very valuable but doesn’t fit their timeline and is a great additional piece to add to get more value in the trade. They get two solid top 20 picks this year and 2 future swaps which is valuable for them since OKC and Philly own swaps in those year with the Clippers
