I, 30M have a mutual friend with a 31F who wants to go out with me. A few years ago I met her through this mutual friend at some parties. She was dating her ex at the time. They were both always very nice. Fast forward and they broke up probably 9 months ago. So they were together for a few years. I recently messaged her and found out she was single. I’ve been on and off texting each day. Our schedules haven’t aligned quite yet.
She invited me out for drinks with her friend group since I already know most of them. I told her I wasn’t able to due to work that night. She states “oh well it’s probably better, my ex will be here anyways”. I was a little taken back when she said that. I asked if he’s around a lot and she said yes. He’s not only in the same volleyball league but on the same team, same exact friends, and goes to all the same events and parties.
I messaged the mutual friend I have, and told her and all she had to say was it was a mutual break up, but there was some jealousy issues. She wouldn’t touch on the fact that it’s odd to have your ex involved in everything. For perspective they were never married and no kids involved.
The woman I’ve been debating on going out with sent me a picture of a roof top one day. I asked where she was at. I thought it was a restaurant. She blew up at me assuming I was being controlling and going to ask who she was with, if it’s a man, and where she was. I just casually said I thought you were out to eat is all. She apologized and said that’s all her ex would do was hound her every day due to extreme jealousy.
Talking to my mutual friend she said this woman is wonderful and would be great to date. From what has happened so far is this even worth going out on a first date or meeting up? I don’t wanna be someplace and her ex is there who is clearly a jealous person. I do trust my friend but it also seems like she just doesnt wanna be involved.
Reason I’ve come to Reddit is last month I was going out with someone else. The ex showed up on the second date. It was managed and no problems but I was wildly uncomfortable. Has anyone been in this situation?
Hello everyone. So I’m a 30M and my friend group has been friends for 15+ years. It’s a mix of men and women, single and married. Nobody has kids though. The past few years the company I work for gives me free hockey tickets and this includes playoffs. I always try to include my friends and go as a group since getting older we don’t see each-other as much anymore. Each time we go something happens where they will miss a huge amount of the game. I’m not a stickler for being on time. Life happens it’s no big deal.
But this time got me. I brought a buddy from work to meet up with my group. I was 5 minutes late so already a little frustrated and I passed by the restaurant my group was at. I figured they’d follow me to the arena. I was invited to get dinner before hand I just couldn’t make it. But to my surprise they didn’t even order yet and it was 7:05, game started at 7. Met up with my other buddy and it was just us through the first period, first intermission and half the second period.
The group finally showed up, didn’t say anything about missing everything. During the second intermission they left to get drinks and didn’t come back until half way through the 3rd period. Then the second the game was over ran out to go to a bar. Once we were at the bar it was like we were best friends and no issues what so ever.
Brining my other buddy really put it into perspective how odd this is. He said he’s never seen people miss so much of something and not care at all, especially it was a group of 6. I guess I never noticed since it’s been fairly normal. This started making me thinking it was that they don’t like hockey but it also happens at other events I’ll plan for the group.
We’re supposed to be planning a group vacation, I’ve been sending ideas for months and I’ve been completely ignored and shot down. I try to be as financially inclusive as possible so all inclusives tend to be a great deal for groups. Since most of them complain about spending money. But I’ve been completely ignored for way more expensive ideas.
It seems when I plan something or if it’s not exactly what everyone wants I’m shot down. I’ve gone to tons of events over the years they’ve wanted to go to just Becuase that’s what friends do and I enjoy spending my time with them. I’m starting to taking it personal that nobody likes when I plan something. Worst part is not many people in my group plan things. They are not bad people by any means and don’t plan on cutting anyone off.
But im considering going cold turkey on planning anything at all for the summer for this group. I feel it’ll be another year we won’t do a group trip or it’ll be something planned where I can’t make it. I’m the only one who doesn’t work a more traditional schedule. So AITA for no longer planning and canceling future events with this friend group?
Hello everyone. I’m a 30M and my friend group has been together around 15 years. The past few years I’ve noticed when I plan events for everyone I’m seemingly blown off. A few years ago my job started giving out excellent seats to hockey games. I’m not the biggest hockey fan but I’ve loved going to games. Every time I’ve gotten tickets for my friend group they have been late. I don’t mind people being late, everyone has things happen and their own lives. But this past week this was the 5th time they missed over half the game for something avoidable. Game was at 7pm and I was a few minutes late so already frustrated. I walked past the restaurant they said they were at and I assumed they were going to follow me. Turned out they didn’t even order yet and it was 7:05. I brought another buddy from work who didn’t know them and he was shocked they sat down to eat when the game just started. They missed the first period, first intermission, and half the second period. They went for food and drinks during the second intermission and then missed half the 3rd period. When the game ended they were the first ones up and ran out the door. My buddy who didn’t know them thought it was really strange that a whole group would do this. Him saying that really put it into perspective that this may not be normal since it’s happened to me so many times with this same group. We went to a bar after and it was totally fine. But what I’ve noticed is anything that is my plan or suggestion is completely blown off. Every hockey game I’ve planned has been this way. This was the 5th one everyone was extremely late to but was right next door for food or drinks. They always tell me they are appreciative I have the tickets covered and got everyone together but I feel terrible every time I plan it at this point. We brought up doing a friends vacation and I’ve listed multiple ideas for us that would be financially inclusive for everyone and I was completely shot down. It’s really making me realize maybe I’m just not taken seriously. So am AITA for wanting to quit planning any events for this friend group and maybe do events for others?
