Oathbringer Interlude 1

So I'm going through my first full re-read (listen) of the series so far and something occurred to me in Oathbringer. >!Interlude 1 is Puuli, the lighthouse keeper in New Natanatan. The story his grandfather told him about people "coming with light in their pockets when the night is darkest" is definitely about the Night of Sorrows, isn't it? It never fails to impress me how Brandon doesn't do anything without a plan in mind. This interlude is so short and out of nowhere, I never even paid any real attention to it before.!<

Lore questions

I have a couple questions that have occurred to me in my current re-read. >!From Oathbringer:

  1. In a conversation with Kaladin about the genders of his spears, Syl mentions that "some older spren have 4 genders because humans didn't imagine them." Does that mean that Singers have 4 genders (since they were alone on Roshar as far as we know before humans arrived)?
  2. Pattern has apologized to Shallan a couple times now for being the one to kill her mother, but he wasn't. Does he actually believe it was him? He has to be aware of Testament's presence by now, right?!<

>!We know that the 3 original spren of Roshar (Stone, Wind, and Night) were charged to "to protect, to shroud, to nurture". Since it's stated that Wind was chosen to protect, it stands to reason the other two also had one of the charges they were dedicated to. Stone to nurture, and Night to shroud. Since Night is no longer on Roshar and no one knows where it went, could it be how Reason is hidden so well even Honor couldn't find them?!<
