Looking for a folk tale
When I was a kid, I read this story in a book titled sth like “Norwegian folk stories” or "Northern Europe folk stories" but already translated to my language. It’s about a princess from a northern country where the weather is cold most of the year. She’s about to get married and she wants to create her wedding dress and tiara that represent the country image. She wants the tiara to resemble ice flowers on a window. That’s the hardest part of the costume that no artist can make it to be as pretty and delicate as the ice flowers. Finally an old guy comes and shows her a bird with the crown exactly like what she wants for the tiara. The guy tells her that these birds are plenty and easy to find on a specific island. He convinces her to kill just one of them to complete the perfect wedding costume.
Years later she returns to her country and reminisces the old day. She thinks about her wedding and the tiara and the bird she ordered to kill and falls asleep. In her dream she is visited by two of the white birds and they guide her to visit their home island, where she finds that essentially the whole species is wiped out because peole was trying to copy her tiara. Horrified, she wakes up and confirms with her father, the king that those birds are now extinct. She then asks how can she atone for causing this, but no definite answer was given.
I was pretty intrigued by the stories in that book but can only remember this one story. I’d like to know if the book has an English version so that I can buy and re-read these stories. If anyone have some idea what that story is about, I'd really appreciate if you can point me to the source material
