Kirkland Renter - Did your rent go up 10% too?

Currently living in the Juanita area and upon renewal my management company came out swinging with 10% increase (300$) per month - I’m currently in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment. They didn’t offer any concession this year. Lease ends October.

Anyone else have similar rent increase stories in 2026?

Small children on E-scooter in traffic on 85th - are they ok?

Did anyone else see what looked to be a ~10 year old and ~6 year old sharing an e-scooter, riding in traffic on westbound 85th by Costco? Both very small, no safety gear in the middle of the lane between cars. It was about 3:30.

They weren’t moving erratically but they’re so small and hard to see in traffic. They were driving past Costco and I really hope they weren’t going to go through the roundabout.

I’m genuinely concerned about them and would feel much better if anyone saw them safely exiting traffic. I was going the opposite way and there wasn’t much I could do besides call the non-emergency line.

Note to the City of Kirkland, you don't need everyone and their great great grandmother in the 4th of July parade

as someone that lives along the parade route, they could cut the parade down by 75%. It's just as long time wise as the rose bowl parade....

I created a school data dashboard to compare schools side by side

Built this because GreatSchools gives ratings but no real comparison. I wanted to see how my neighborhood school stacks up against others in the same district across scores, growth, attendance, discipline, and demographics.

Is Juanita Beach Park safe for running after 10 PM?

I'm a woman and usually try to get my runs in before 9 PM, while there's still a little light out. Lately, though, work has been keeping me busy, so I've been running along 100th Ave between about 9:30 and 10:30 PM. It's well lit and I generally feel okay, but it's getting a bit boring.

I was wondering if anyone here runs at Juanita Beach Park around that time. I notice there are usually a few parked cars and I've occasionally seen police patrols, so it doesn't seem completely deserted.

Would you consider it reasonably safe for a solo female runner after 10 PM? If you run there around that time, I'd love to hear your experience.

Also, if there are any regular runners who head out around 9:30–10:30 PM, I'd be happy to join for a run. Thanks!

What do you need from local news?

Hi there, I'm Alex Rochester, KUOW's Digital Community Engagement Producer. My job is to talk with the KUOW audience and Puget Sound region residents about their local news needs.

Our midday broadcast show and podcast Soundside is a newsmagazine radio show that keeps you up to date on local issues and then dives deep to build understanding. The team are currently asking listeners and non-listeners for their hopes, dreams and constructive critiques of the show. Anyone who cares about local news is welcome to participate!

Please fill in this survey or share your answers to the following questions in the comments.

If you're a listener, what do you want more or less of in the show?

If you're not a listener, what would it have to feature to feel worth your time?

Do you want more stories that focus on politics, community-solutions, outside of Seattle, arts & culture, and/or panel discussions with multiple perspectives? Do you want less of something?

The team asked for listeners to weigh in because they take feedback very seriously, so the more detailed your thoughts the more it will help them understand how best to serve the public with the news they need.

Cafe/Food recommendations close to Marina?

Looking for the scoop on good eats within a 10-15 min walk from the marina. Doing a test run of an inflatable boat from across the lake and parking for a few hours. Can be any cuisine as long as it’s really good and prefer casual over fancy. Thanks!

Shame to Juanita Cat Owner

If this is your cat (Juanita area near 100th Ave NE) then you need to keep it inside. This cat has tried to kill the birds in my backyard almost every day for the last week. My cat screams when it notices your cat so I’ve woken in the middle of the night and noticed it during the day. Do you just let your cat roam all day long? The road itself is busy and unsafe for your cat and it’s irresponsible for you to let it roam where it could be hurt and tries to hurt other animals. The birds in my yard have a nest so they are trying to protect it when your cat comes by and tries to hunt them. If you can’t provide enough love, attention, fun, or have the responsibility to keep your cat safe then you shouldn’t have one.

Just as a note, yes I know the cat is doing nothing wrong itself, and I have a cat myself, but this is to shame a bad pet owner. Also I don’t believe this is a lost cat as I’ve noticed it in the area for the last few months.

Bookclub?

Hello!

Long-time lurker, first time poster. My husband (32YM) and I (30YF) moved to the Kirkland area 3 years ago and haven't made many friends. I've gotten back into reading recently and was wondering if anyone would be interested in starting/joining a bookclub?

We could meet up in a cafe, at a park, restaurant, etc., to get to know each other and find out our book interests. I read a bit of everything but recently I've been into self-improvement, romance, and fantasy.

I was thinking we don't all necessarily have to read the same book, we could read separate books and then share what they're about? I'm open to ideas!

Hope to hear from y'all soon!

What issues matter most to you right now?

Over the past several months, I’ve knocked on nearly 4,000 doors across the 45th District and heard concerns from people on everything from housing costs and traffic to fighting Trump, schools, public safety, taxes, childcare, and the future of our local economy.

I’d like to hear from more people here in this community: What issues are most important to you right now? What do you think state government is getting right/wrong or just not paying enough attention to?

I’m running for State Rep. in the 45th, and I believe a big part of that job is just listening. I genuinely want to better understand what you want your elected officials focused on.

I’ve included a poll with some broad options based on the thousands of conversations I’ve had thus far, but please add anything I missed in the comments! Thanks and looking forward to discussing!

The new Slip burgers opened up yesterday

I only went to the Slip once under the prior owners and never returned. I walked past it last night after dinner and a couple of their burgers looks promising, the PB&J and Hog one.

Sick of Eastside Veterinary Associates

Lately, I’ve been taking my dog to Eastside Veterinary Associates, but I’m really starting to feel like they prioritize upselling products and overcharging rather than just focusing on the care.

My dog has a really raw, irritated issue right now that needs to be looked at. I just want a vet who is highly competent, reasonably priced, and actually cares about the animal's well-being instead of selling extras.

Who do you guys use and trust around here? Appreciate any leads.
