The 0.05% 7-HMG scheduling threshold for leaf: Analysis

Because some folks have expressed concern:

Last night I pulled 80 lab reports from a handful of vendors from very large ones to small batch "cottage" operations across all color types. They were picked based on the accessibility of lab reports. Two vendors were not considered because they did not have lab reports accessible on their website.

No 7-HMG levels in the botanical product samples exceeded 0.0184%, by dry weight basis. The average was 0.00566% (almost 10 times below the limit) with a standard deviation of 0.00368%. This does not prove that they cannot exist, though I'm increasingly doubtful, just that I could not find one.

11 of 80 samples were below the limit of quantification (most common for "reds"), which varied by lab, but was never higher than 0.010%, and in many cases below 0.001%.

This was below the pending scheduling action that sets a threshold at 0.05%.

There was no significant correlation between shelf 7-HMG levels and mitragynine levels (r=-0.007, n=80).

I am not writing this to advocate for or against the scheduling action (in this post) and my only intention is to report my findings to the community.

Other information collected:

Average mitragynine: 1.31% (range: 0.62% to 1.73%).

Notes:

A larger sample is always better. I stopped at 80 because I had not seen any samples exceeding the threshold, and only 7 (of 80) were 0.010% or higher and time constraints.

Specific terms:

>(A) Any botanical material of the plant Mitragyna speciosa, also known as kratom, and contains more than 0.050 percentage of 7-hydroxymitragynine on a dry weight basis, or

>(B) Any alternative article or material to that described in (A), that is:

>i. Resulting from synthetic methods and containing 7-hydroxymitragynine present in amounts greater than 0.050 percentage weight/weight, weight/volume, or volume/volume or greater than 1.00 milligram of 7-hydroxymitragynine in the article, or

>ii. Material derived from Mitragyna speciosa and furtherprocessed to manufacture alternative dosage forms such as extracts, concentrates, processed edibles, or pressed pills, and which may have materials that have been exposed to chemical, thermal, or other methods leading to chemical transformations that result in 7-hydroxymitragynine present in amounts greater than 0.050 percentage weight/weight, weight/volume, or volume/volume or greater than 1.00 milligram of 7-hydroxymitragynine in the article.

Moderator Note: Naturally this is a major event in the history of kratom. Some are going to be extremely happy. Some are going to be extremely upset. Some will be looking for information about the potential effects on the marketplace.

We are going to leave this open to collect publication notices from other federal agencies.

Reminder Rule 2: Treat each other with respect. Do not be hostile or rude. Do not call people names. Insults will not be tolerated and will result in a ban from the sub.

We will probably be collecting information about tapering and transition from these compounds to the best of our ability over the next few days for people that may benefit from it.

Careful Measurement of Liquid Products (Routine Use or Tapering)

Over the years I've been looking at ways to carefully measure intake or carefully taper liquid extracts or teas.

The solution I found is a scientific adjustable pipette. I use this one (Amazon, no affiliate link or financial relationship). I use the 1-10mL model. Other brands would work just as well. It can be tested by putting it into a graduated cylinder to verify it matches the readout. Read the directions on technique.

The real benefit is that it is adjustable, so you can set it to exactly how much you want it to draw. For me, I will draw 5x 10mL of my filtered tea concentrate that I make (100g/1000mL, actually using less acid now to keep the pH higher) that approximates around 5 grams equivalent (probably less in practice due to loss in process, but I've adapted to this).

When I tapered down for a medical test/procedure, and restarted use after. I would just click the wheel to subtract how ever much I was planning to taper down each day. I knew I needed to reach zero (or close) in 30-31 days, so each day I'd just turn the knob down and draw 5x whatever the readout was for each of my 4 servings.

Example, 50mL 4x/day reduced to zero in 31 days.

4.0 0.4 1.0 0.2 -50.00%
2.0 0.2 0.5 0.1 -100.00%

The drawback is that the heads (plastic tips) are probably proprietary and cost more than a typical ungraduated plastic pipette. These ones (Amazon link, no affiliate or financial relationship) however were pretty firm and didn't have a bulbous top, so I rinse them out and reuse one for a few days in this situation.

They also work for liquid extract shots, but some of the bottles are fairly narrow lipped so you just dump the bottle into a medicine cup to draw and pour it back into the bottle and put the bottle back in the fridge. It doesn't matter if you have to use partial bottles.

For example, a popular 8.8mL shot product could be tapered to zero in 88 days just by clicking the knob from 8.8 to 0.1 less down to zero each day, or 44 days turning it twice (-0.2mL/day), or 30 days turning it 3 times (-0.3mL/day)

Heads Up: Police Checkpoint Redlands Today

Was looking at the recent pizza post and decided to head to the city to try one of the pizza recommendations.

There is a police checkpoint by the city hall on Orange/Cajon (changes names). Not sure of the hours. Looking for DUI and license offenses. Not sure if lapsed registration or other non-moving issues are also on the menu.

Before anyone complains, I’m as anti-DUI as a person can be. I’m also against dragnet policing where people can be stopped without probable cause, “legal” or not, and for making traffic worse around commute.

Reminder to enjoy the holiday, but don’t drink and drive.

AB 1088: Removed from Committee Agenda

AB 1088 was removed from the Senate Health Committee agenda today. Legiscan is not yet up to date.

Edit:

https://shea.senate.ca.gov/system/files/2026-06/agenda-final-6.17_updated-6.16.pdf

PDF has it crossed out, online calendar still there. Not sure what that means.

====

I’m already in Sacramento so going to hang around Capitol area and make sure it stays that way, but didn’t want folks to have any unnecessary travel/travel expenses.

No further information available.

Regarding Ohio Rule 4729:9-1-01.1 that would prohibit 7-HMG and more or less anything not botanical kratom in Ohio.

The complete BOP filing.

The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law is reporting that this rule has passed JCARR as of April 13th and is expected to replace the Emergency classification on May 15th.

Corroborating information from Rep. Brennan (D-Parma) regarding the rule and committee.

Regulation bills are still active in the Senate and House for the botanical product.
