I’m in the South (US) to be near family. In a small red town.

I am a sensitive person and my mind ruminates a lot (not looking for advice I am doing a lot of work as is)

When people in the south say this is there some underlying thing where they are looking to catch you lying about illness or is it a genuine (wow that’s a shame) sentiment?

I am a little paranoid living here and looking for some grounding perspective. What is the reason behind this sentiment or is just a reflex statement? Like what is the receiver supposed to do with this statement/assessment?
