New supporter — where to start?

Hey Kraken fans!

I’ve been in this amazing city for over four years and am diving into local sports. How should I kick off my Kraken journey? I’m curious about our history, current status, and what this season holds.

Any favorite spots to sit at Climate Pledge Arena? I’ve attended for Storm games but never hockey. And what jerseys do you recommend?

Thanks! Can’t wait to enjoy the season with you all! :)

Help getting started with Schacht Matchless

Hello everyone, I recently acquired a Schacht Matchless spinning wheel and I absolutely adore it. It’s a single treadle wheel from 1988.

I’ve got a pound of Corriedale roving but I’m completely clueless about how to start spinning it.

I managed to make a leader using some silk yarn, and I’m able to get the fibers to grab onto the twist. However, it just spins my entire roving, and I’m struggling with drafting.

I’m using Scotch tension and the wheel, so I’ve tried adjusting both, but I’m still confused about this delicate system.

Since I live in a rural area, there are no nearby classes or spinning groups.

Could anyone please recommend some resources or techniques that would help me get started?

Thanks a lot!

Update: My 1988 Schacht Matchless

Ahhh! Thank you for all the encouragement :’)

I picked her up today and I’m already in love. She’s a 1988 single treadle and I already adore her. She has a soft chatter when spinning and I can already tell it’s going to be my new soothing noise.

Thank you so so much to my kind seller who also gifted me a pound of Corriedale roving to work with as I get started.

Flock is next week and I plan to go crazy then.

I’m already cooking up ideas about making a brown trout themed skein for an homage to my childhood in Montana.

Yayayayayaayyaayya!!! I am so excited :)))

Am I insane to get a Schacht Matchless as a complete beginner

I'm a complete beginner and have never once spun yarn in my life. I am, however, a knitter/sewist/quilter/cross-stitcher for the past 12+ years with knitting be my main craft. I love wool, I love intentionality, I love analog, and I love really anything fiber related.

I've fallen down the hole of spinning and I can't seem to get out of it. I found a Schacht matchless on facebook wth two regular and two bulky bobbins, original orifice hook, and carrying strap for $800. It's in great condition nd would last me forever.

Am I insane to get this as my first wheel? I've been saving for a while as I've known I wanted to get into this. I can afford it. It just feels a bit ridiculous for a beginner to get a lifetime wheel but I: a) cannot see myself NOT liking this hobby b) if i somehow do, I can always resell?

Is this an okay wheel for a beginner to learn on if they have the will, budget, enthusiasm, and want?

Thanks!

Is an Ashford Traditional from the 70s a right choice for me?

Hello, all!

I have caught the hand spinning bug and come to join your ranks. I am a complete beginner and have found an Ashford Traditional from the 70s in amazing condition with a replaced leather footman connector, new spring and line for the scotch tension system, new drive band with additional Cotton drive band, freshly waxed, a lazy Kate, and four bobbins. It has clearly been well taken care of and loved.

I am a complete beginner but know myself that this is something I will really enjoy and have spent time thinking on. I do not like to just have skeins lying around that I have no use for. Knowing this and my knitting style, I am mostly hoping to get solid colors or fun fractals in Worsted to Fingering weight. I personally know I will have no use for any chunkier yarn or those that are very funky and bumpy. I mostly will use the skeins for myself but would love to gift to my friends that knit as well. I am open to all fiber types and excited to get to know what I really love working with.

That said, do you think the Ashford Traditional is the right choice for me?

Thank you!

Arc lamp rewiring

Hey, MCM lovers. I have this lovely arc lamp (no idea maker) that I got off fb marketplace. It has wiring through the extending pole and goes through the top. Unfortunately I twisted a bit too much putting a lamp in and a big spark happened and a smell of smoke lol.

I inquired having someone fix it and they quoted $400…. Yeah, can’t do that.

I have done circuit boards before in school but to say I’m an electrician is…laughable. Does anyone have any ideas about fixing this lamp and rewiring?

Thanks!

Anxious about venturing towards men again?

I’ve only been dating, talking to, or having sex with women for the past six years. It was very freeing to me when I realized I was queer and with a past of sexual trauma in my childhood, I felt like I could forsake all the specific male trauma and never deal with it again. I’m a bit older now, out of a 2.5 year relationship with a woman, and realizing I’d like to try with a man again — slowly, one I could really trust, and again emphasis on **slowly**. I also know I’m *not* wanting to date anyone right now and want to focus on myself and what I need and want. I also haven’t had sex since November so….ya girl is wanting something.

I made a FeeId profile and explicitly said I’m looking for xyz and matched / been speaking with a guy I feel attracted to, something rare for me.

I’m going to meet him for coffee and I feel a bit paralyzed about how to act as a woman available to men and with this specific intention in mind. I’ve been more of a “bro” type figure with men so pivoting back into this energy is confounding to me; also deeply terrifying.

Do any of you have experience with this and taking breaks with some genre of human and then venturing back?

Thank you!
