A couple months ago, Justin Hast described the new 36mm Laureato with the rose-gold dial in a way that’s lived rent free in my head ever since
Paraphrasing him: I can picture myself years from now on the southern coast of Italy, tan, dressed in beautiful white linen, with this on the wrist—and it just works. It works now, and hopefully it’ll work just as well then. (YouTube @ justin_hast)
Well… that statement may have worked a little too well on me.
I ended up getting the watch.
And now, two months later, I’m on vacation in Bordeaux with the whole family, surrounded by vineyards, linen on, Laureato 36mm on the wrist.
Not quite the southern Italian coast, but close enough…
Living out the statement that sold me on the watch, feeling amazing, and ever so fortunate and grateful.
Cheers

Sizing the bracelet and took an opportunity to take some movement photos.
Obligatory photos of the new GP Laureato 36mm with the rose gold dial. The photos really don’t do it justice.
I’ve also included some comparison shots with the previous-generation 38mm Laureato in rose gold. All comparison photos were taken from the exact same distance. I measured both with calipers, and they are indeed 38mm vs. 36mm. Visually, though, the new 36mm doesn’t appear to taper as aggressively because of its proportions. The 36mm measures 16.5mm at its narrowest point, while the 38mm measures 16mm.
For anyone who cares about lume (I definitely do), I’ve included a handful of lume shots under different lighting conditions as well.
The new model somehow feels both more vintage and more modern at the same time. I rarely buy watches at retail, but I don’t think I’ll regret this one. It’s stunning. The case edges feel crisp yet smooth, and the dial shimmer is on another level. I haven’t owned anything quite like it.
I couldn’t get any good movement shots today, but maybe another time.
A few observations, not necessarily criticisms:
● The micro-adjust is a little tricky to operate. I’m sure it’ll become second nature with practice, but it’s not something you can adjust blindly like a Rolex Glidelock or the clasp on a Tudor Pelagos.
● Aesthetically, I’m not completely sold on the visible micro-adjust gap, though it may grow on me.
● The movement winds incredibly smoothly.
● It feels like it takes a few more crown turns to reach the time-setting position than the previous model.
● The crown is now octagonal instead of round. I’m not sure which I prefer yet, but I do think the octagonal crown suits this version better since the overall design has sharper, more defined edges.
