Elementor editor won't load on shared hosting - 503 errors on admin-ajax.php
Hi all,
I'm running into a persistent issue with Elementor on shared hosting (TMT Hosting) and wondering if anyone's found a workaround or solution.
The problem:
- Elementor editor refuses to load - the left panel stays greyed out and unresponsive
- Console shows repeated 503 Service Unavailable errors on /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
- WordPress admin dashboard works fine, but anything Elementor-related times out
- This happens consistently, not intermittently
What I've already tried:
- Increased PHP memory limits to 512M in wp-config.php
- Increased max execution time to 300 seconds via .htaccess
- Adjusted Cloudflare WAF rules to exclude /wp-admin/ paths
- Disabled non-essential plugins (Uncanny Automator, Query Monitor, etc.)
- Running PHP 8.2.33
Setup:
- WordPress with Elementor Pro
- ~30GB storage, moderate traffic
- Multiple plugins: ACF, Yoast SEO, Wordfence, GA4/GTM integration
- Running on shared hosting
My question:
Has anyone encountered this on shared hosting and found a practical fix? Or is VPS/migration to managed hosting the only real solution?
Any suggestions appreciated!
