My harmless catspiracy theory about ALTTP is that Link’s sprite was originally designed by a colorblind developer, but then the design stuck and became iconic. The color picked for Link’s hair looks indistinguishable from pink when put into a color blindness simulator. Notably, tritanopia is the rarest form of colorblindness, which is a slight caveat in this theory, but it is still a definite possibility.

On a CRT, Link’s hair looks fine and some people didn’t even notice it was pink, but for those of us who grew up playing the game on emulator/Virtual Console it was always a little confusing even though I love Link’s weird and wonderful bright pink hair.
