Journey before destination! The next step will be the simplified Roshar planetary symbol as a square in one corner, and probably the Cosmere symbol in the other!

Part 1 of my first inlay is done!

Originally inspired by a knitting pattern, I had to adjust quite a bit on the fly. It’s 17 inches tall and 9.5 inches wide. It weighs 11.6 ounces (329 grams) and probably used about 5500 jump rings.

A knight at MD Ren Faire

The outfit is symmetrical on the bottom, I didn’t realize during the picture that the scale was pushed back on one side

Scale mail tunic complete

I added in chainmail for the underarms and am very happy with how it turned out! Steel and aluminum scales with stainless steel rings.

Total scales/rings: many. The base was a stainless steel vest kit that The Ring Lord used to sell, with an additional ~5600 stainless steel rings and ~1000 aluminum scales.

Total weight: 17.2 lbs

Advice on scale mail outfit

Last year I wore this scale mail I made with a red tunic (pictured) to Ren Faire with green pants and tan boots (not pictured).

I’m thinking about improvements to make to the scale mail and looking for any advice.

Current thoughts:

Waist/leg portion is on a belt, I was thinking of connecting that directly to the tunic portion and have a belt that goes over the top.

I could add chainmail in the armpits (but worried it would be very saggy at rest.

I’ve been trying to think of what sort of hat/head covering would make sense for shade.

I’m very open to different types of pants/legs under the tunic but will be keeping the boots for walkability.

Thanks for any advice!

Advice on findings

I’ve been using toggle clasps as a default but they tend not to not work with some of the weaves I’ve been trying. I like the slide lock clasps for the width of design but am not sure that I trust magnets.

How do you choose your findings?
