My roommate and I are putting up this gate we bought off Amazon, to separate my cat from hers (mine will get the upstairs area and hers will get the downstairs). It is pressure mounted from the sides like a baby gate (rather than the bottom/top). It would fit on the staircase, however, we’d rather install it at the bottom. However, the bottom of our staircase has a railing that sticks out. How can we easily and safely block off the gap between the ceiling and the hand rail (or down to the floor) where there is no more wall beside the staircase?
