Fixing a Kallax on wall.

Hello. I'd like to fix the white kallax on the wall. Has anyone done something like this? The black one will support the white one I'll use some metal brackets too, like the ones in the second image and I'm wondering what plugs and screws I must use to fix it on a hollow brick wall. Thanks in advance!

Should have the corners of stand or the frame touch the ground?

We had concerns about it being wobbly on the ground by itself. Fixed it via shims so all vertical corners now touch the ground

Problem now is the bottom base that is suppose to spread the load evenly is not touching the ground…

Solutions?

(This is for a 20gal glass UNS tank!)

Best way to remove a permanently fixed shelf (with no visible screws) in a cabinet?

I am trying to remove a useless half shelf in a pantry cabinet. There are no visible screws or nails anywhere on the outside and the shelf is solidly attached. I could not budge it. I used a rubber mallet and tried gently banging it upwards and it moved the whole cabinet. I’m worried about tearing the side or back of the cabinet if I don’t do it correctly. Any advice on how best to approach this?

Want to make sure kid's swing set works right.

Hello - I assembled a swing set my daughter and wife bought from Amazon. Once assembled, it was apparent, (I've included pictures), that the holes for hanging swings in the top crossbar seem to be mis-drilled***. These holes go from front to back, instead of top to bottom. There's one set of holes that goes top to bottom, (in the third photo, on the right side of the crossbar, you can barely make it out.)

I have three questions -- shouldn't the holes for the swing face down? I'm thinking the swing is kind of a pendulum and it would be best for the mounting point to be vertical.

That leads to my second question - can I drill new holes in the appropriate places and then hang the swing?

My third question - are there devices that I could just attach to the crossbar that I could hang the swing from?

Thanks all who help.

(* I believe the holes might be mis-drilled because I aligned the other holes on the crossbar correctly, according to the directions that came with the swing set and the swing set did come together properly.)

How do I hide these cables / broadband and service points ?

I'm looking for a DIY idea, to cover broadband, Siro, alarm cables and modems in a new build house. The front door opens very close to these as well so not much space to play with.

They also heat up a lot so might need to be said.

It's in the hall and living area and doorway so your met with this as you walk in.

Thanks for any ideas.

Need Advice with a Project

My roommate and I are putting up this gate we bought off Amazon, to separate my cat from hers (mine will get the upstairs area and hers will get the downstairs). It is pressure mounted from the sides like a baby gate (rather than the bottom/top). It would fit on the staircase, however, we’d rather install it at the bottom. However, the bottom of our staircase has a railing that sticks out. How can we easily and safely block off the gap between the ceiling and the hand rail (or down to the floor) where there is no more wall beside the staircase?

Spray Painting Aluminum and Zinc Alloy

Hello guys!

I am about to do a DIY project that I have no experience of and hope you can assist me, like as an idiot lol!

Basically, I bought this Travalo Vector (Blue), perfume pod, and I want to paint it black. This is currently worth $70.00 each, so, yeah, it’s a splurge. No more long reasons why I want to take risk and paint it black as that’s another story, but essentially, I was given two pieces instead of one. Tried to send the extra one back, as it’s the right thing to do, but they never replied. So, I have now two pieces of this color blue.

So months after contemplating, and failing to sell the extra one, I have now decided to just paint the other one BLACK, for the sake of telling each other apart.

But since I have NO IDEA on how to start, I would ask for your help from you experienced guys on how to go about this. Normally I would just wing it out, same as my other DIY man-projects, but being that this is $70, I decided to post this and maybe get a few tips beforehand.

With all that aside, so these are the specifics. So, this Travalo Vector is “advertised” as “crafted from aircraft-grade aluminum and zinc alloy. It is totally glass-free”.

So that’s the material. Maybe it’s just advertising, but I have to assume this is aircraft-grade aluminum and zinc alloy. And I bought a couple of black automotive paint in spray paint.

So any step-by-step tips on how to go about this? My monkey-brain just instinctively makes me want to 1. Cover the parts I don’t want painted, 2. Spray paint like crazy and let it dry

Thanks for any of your detailed help, and God bless you!

The ceiling in our kitchen is parting

We bought our house a couple years back, and slowly but surely the cracks are starting to show... literally :)

I've been fixing a bunch of stuff around the house these past months, but this issue (that started as a crack in the paint and finally parted a couple weeks back) I honestly have no clue on how to even get started.

Any help is more than appreciated!

How do I tape a pillow to my body securely?

I’ve tried taping it but the problem is that it doesn’t stay in place on my stomach - it keeps moving down my body. I absolutely need it to be secured tightly without moving down. What angles would I use to keep it in place?

Can I drill into this wall?

Hey, I really want to hang stuff on that wall but I am scared to drill into it. Especially because of the pipes outside the wall, why aren‘t they in it? Is there a reason for this?

Idk if it helps but it’s an outside wall facing another very old building in a German old town

Thanks!

What material should I use for this?

Does anyone have any ideas for what to use to make these? The arch one is a window. I'm renting, so I can't permanently attach or affix anything but I want something I can do on that scale and place overtop of the window (nailing it to the wall is fine). I'm going to use these vinyl window things for the pattern but I want something more 3d for the arch.

The second one is a cheap mirror from Walmart and I would just attach the piece on top.

This would also need to be painted and be able to be done safely inside since I don't really have an outdoor space.

Thanks in advance!

How Solid is This Design for a Kitchen Island?

I'm planning on making a kitchen island. The plan is to place a quartz slab on top, and I'm just second guessing if the frame will be solid enough. I can always update the design with corbels, maybe legs, but I want to avoid anything getting in the way of seating.

The design is a bit... unorthodox, but it's all for a functional purpose, and I'd like to change as little as possible. Here's a 3D model for anyone needing a better view (sorry about the lack of color): https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/kitchen-island-115a797f252c4450aa6cf43b14338ab9

The cabinets are 1/2" plywood, and I plan on making the frame out of 2x4s joined together with glues & 2-1/2" pocket screws, attached to the cabinet with cabinet screws, and reinforcing the overhang areas with some corner braces.

I plan on securing the frame to the concrete slab foundation with 3/16" concrete screws. I won't add any barrier between the wood frame & concrete slab, since the old Island I removed had no water damage, and had been sitting directly on the concrete for ~20years.

As for the electrical, I'll just be running romex through the cabinets, so that I can avoid making holes directly in the framing.

Anyways, let me know if there's anything wrong with this design, or what I can improve.

What to do with old coaxial cable?

My dry waller pulled this old cable out of the wall in the kitchen when he was patching. It wasn’t there before we demo’ed; I think it was behind the wall … I just moved into this condo so don’t think I need it. Can I just cap the end, shove it back into the wall, and tile over it or is there a better way?

How to create a smoother surface on steps?

We have a disabled daughter who can't manage steps without hand rails. We're waiting (and waiting) for the Council to provide railings...

in the meantime is there anything we can use to coat these steps to give a smoother finish? We'll still need some grip but at the moment this is cutting holes in every pair of her shorts & trousers.

Edit to add: still want some traction, but these are so rough they create holes in everything. There must be a middle ground!

UK based.
