Did anyone else feel called out (in a good way) by the ending?

I vaguely knew how the story of Eurydice and Orpheus would end. And I don't like uncomplicated, simplistic happy endings. But still... I wanted to see them make it out together. I cared about the characters, and my heart sank when he turned around.

But Hermes was the real gut punch. He says no matter how many times we retell tragic stories, part of us still wants them to turn out differently this time. And I was like, "shoot, you got me." It's still true that I like bittersweet endings because they feel more nuanced and real, but also... the hopelessly sentimental part of me wanted the happy ending.

I was expecting the storyline. I wasn't expecting Hermes to teach me how we humans are messily, foolishly hopeful despite all evidence and knowledge to the contrary. But he isn't mocking us- to him, our flaws are beautiful. That's the part of the ending that hit me. It hit deep. And it turned the movie (I haven't seen it on stage) from a good one to a great one, in my opinion.
