GLM-5.2 is extremely slow through OpenRouter + Codex — is my setup wrong?

I’m using GLM-5.2 through OpenRouter inside Codex, and it feels extremely slow.

Is there anything wrong with my setup, or is this expected behavior? I’m wondering if the slowdown is coming from OpenRouter, Codex, GLM-5.2 itself, or my reasoning settings.

I first tried using Max reasoning, but it got stuck for around 30 minutes without actually writing any code, so I had to stop it manually. Then I switched to High, but it was still very slow.

The task was relatively simple. Has anyone else experienced this with GLM-5.2 on OpenRouter/Codex? Are there recommended settings to make it usable?

The more I try the new Gemini the more I appreciate ChatGPT with how is it insanely good.

I have paid subscriptions to both and use the extended features of both. With the recent release of different Gemini products, I tried using the new Gemini for coding, but when I tried to give it task to refresh the visual look of my web app with a different theme, it broke the core function of my web app.

I tried using Codex with the same prompt and it did it perfectly.

Then I tried Gemini's integration with Google Apps. I asked Gemini to list all my recurring subscriptions in my email, but it failed to list half of them. Then I tried ChatGPT, which listed all my subscriptions and also my one-time purchases for review.

I'm really appreciating how good ChatGPT is, and I find Google's failure so baffling.

Gemini Flash 3.5 fail again

I've been using Codex, which is amazing for creating web application. Then the new Google Gemini 3.5 Flash came out, so I wanted to try it again to see if it's any better.

Then I asked it to adjust the UI to a certain theme. Voilà! It worked, but it broke the functions.

I tried again with Codex with the same prompt. This time, however, the UI updated without breaking the core function.

Gemini failed again.

TLDR: Day to day conversation I mostly say and hear people now say "Ask ChatGPT" not "Google it" not even "Ask Gemini".

Anyone else notice themselves doing this?

I used to say “Google it” whenever I needed to search for something. Now I catch myself saying “Ask ChatGPT.”

I still use Google for quick, simple questions. But when the question is specific, nuanced, or needs a bit more reasoning, I usually go to ChatGPT instead.

I’m on Plus using Thinking mode, so maybe that’s why it feels more useful for those kinds of questions.

Edited: Added TLDR for people who cant read paragraphs.
