im watching “The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel” at the moment & in the very first episode she’s shown [four years into her marriage] going to sleep with a full face of makeup including eyelashes & her hair done up. as soon as she confirms her husband, Mr.Maisel is sound asleep, she goes to the bathroom to remove her makeup, put on an overnight face mask, & fix her hair into rollers before getting into bed to actually sleep. however before she sleeps, she cracks the blinds just enough for the morning light to shine on her very specifically

as morning arrives, the early daylight hits her in the face over one eye perfectly, emerging her from slumber. she then flees to the bathroom where her nightly undoing occurred & does herself up as if she’s preparing for the day. however, she returns to bed & lays there just seconds before an alarm clocks goes off & her husband wakes up. she doesn’t show signs of her being awake until he leans over to her. it’s almost like a “the coast is clear,” thing for her

idk maybe im looking into this too much but ive also had two glasses of wine & i wonder: did women really do this much to keep their male partners interested? if so, what were the implications? the husbands would leave if they saw their wives with a pimple or curl out of place? i don’t know, this genuinely has urged me to get into women’s history so much more. to be honest, now i want to know american history more in general (black woman in her mid 20s here please understand why i generally shy away from it)

but yes without the tangent, what was that about? this show aims to be as periodically-accurate as possible so i am wondering how intentional that was

thanks for reading this lol i’ve done no spell checks also
