Tips for backpacking Bulgaria on a shoestring budget

Hi! I'm trying to plan my backpacking trip to Bulgaria and I would appreciate any tips on how I can save money (I'm from Asia and the exchange rate is giving me anxiety...)

How much cash (euros) should I carry with me? I have some US dollars with me- should I exhange this at the airport or the local banks/money changers?

Is it easy to withdraw money from the ATMs? (I'm a bit worried about incurring lots of extra charges, so I guess I should withdraw a bigger amount?)

To get to my hostel, I can just use the metro from the airport ya? Is there a weekly public transport card for metros/buses?

From my research so far, I should be able to get cheaper food from supermarkets and bakeries ya? Where should I go for good, cheap coffee/wine?

Are there certain days where some attractions/museums are free?

How much should I tip for the free walking tour?

I love live music (I'm a musician)- any music venues you'd recommend?

What local sim provider would you recommend? Can I buy it at the airport? Would I be able to use it in other Euro countries? (Might go to Romania if I can)

Thank you so, so much for your help!

Travel insurance recommendations for Malaysians traveling abroad

Hi! Do you get travel insurance before going on a trip overseas? Which providers would you recommend? Has anyone tried Tune?

I have health insurance but I'm pretty sure that doesn't cover international travel.

By the way, the countries I'm thinking of going to doesn't require travel insurance (for Malaysians and others that don't need a visa). Just thought it would be safer to have one.

Thank you so much!.

Long-term backpacking: How far ahead do you lock in your next destination/flights

Hi! I plan to backpack (on a budget) for about 2 months and I'm just a little overwhelmed trying to figure out when to book flights to the next destination.

I want to just go with the flow...if I like a place then I'd like to stay longer. I like to travel slow. I was also thinking of doing some Workaway projects along the way.

I'm thinking of maybe going to Portugal first. I'm not sure how long I'll spend there...but I might want to take a bus to Spain if it feels right. If I have time (and money) I was thinking I could make a trip from there to Morroco. Or maybe I could just spend all my time in one Portugal if I love it.

The thing is..is it okay to not book return flights ahead of time? Will they ask for return tickets/proof of onward travel at the airport?

How do you guys go about locking in your next destination while traveling long term? Thank you so much for your help :)

Using Uzbek ATM cards overseas

Hi, salam

Can I use my Agrobank ATM card in other countries (Kazhakstan, Thailand etc). Do I have to first activate something that'll allow international transaction? Do you know how I can do this?

Thank you so much for your help!

Backpacking Kazhakstan

Hi! I'm planning to go to Kazhakstan next month for about 2- 4 weeks.

Which mobile network would you recommend? Should I buy it at the airport?

Has anyone used esims? I might go to neighbouring countries if I have the time (Tajikstan/Kyrgyzstan), so I'm wondering if esims would be a better choice?

Also, how do you go about exchanging money? Should I bring USDs and change it at the airport? I have Uzbek soms but I dont think I can exchange it there. Or do you just use your foreign bank cards at the ATM machines there?

Thank you so much for your help!

▲ 3 r/Guitar

Hi!

I'm planning to go on a long backpacking trip (doing Workaways etc) and I want to bring my electric guitar along.

Has anyone brought their electric guitar on their travels? Would you recommend bringing one of those travel guitar instead...the small ones you can take apart?

Also, any recommendations on amp sims and tiny amps?

Thank you!
