Glyphs flicking between controller and keyboard
I’ve taken advantage of the steam sale to buy ‘old’ third person games I’ve ignored before getting the Steam Controller (Last of Us, God of War, FF7 Remake).
I find the controller is best with the right trackpad (and gyro) acting as mouse input, but this causes an issue of the Steam input glyphs flicking between the “last used device”.
Eg if I’m next to an intractable with my finger on the trackpad, The Last of Us suggests the E keyboard button, but if I press a button it will flip to the Y controller button.
I’ve tried to switch the trackpad to “as joystick” (so all inputs are as a controller) but the sensitivity doesn’t seem adjustable beyond the in game settings, which is too low for a trackpad.
As I see it, the only options to stop glyph flickering are to have all Steam Controller inputs as a controller OR kb+mouse, but this lack of flex misses out on the controller’s strengths.
Having all inputs as kb+mouse allows use of the mouse-trackpad but it’s difficult to remember all keyboard bindings.
It seems FF7 Remake handles it properly- all glyphs remain as the controller despite having mouse look in use on the trackpad. But I guess this is rare.
Anyone found similar frustrations or better workarounds? Am I being stupid for thinking this should be a Steam Input setting for the user?
