‘I’m a Gilmore’
Is anyone actually really confused by Rory’s comment about how ‘she’s a Gilmore’ and more confusing the comment about her family coming to America on the Mayflower given how colonialism affected native americans and the indigenous; like is that really something people go around saying for merit
Like I kinda get why she would say that but also feels a bit ignorant which I think was purposeful on the writers’ part but still I’m still unsure
I mean I’m not American so maybe that contributes to my confusion but I do still feel that is an odd thing to say
EDIT: this wasn’t me tryna shitting on Rory. I’ve seen a few people saying I’m taking it out of context but I didn’t feel it were necessary to talk about the whole situation sorrounding it. I was just genuinely confused wether or not this was a normal/ common thing for Americans to say because like I said, I’m not American. I also haven’t been and I was a child in the 2000s so my norm is post 2010s attitudes, #MeToo etc. I just didn’t know that this was something that amongst elite Americans was a common flex
I also js wanted to say that this sub is meant to be welcoming to fans of the show, all ages so it is understandable why people like myself would have questions and it’s a kinda off putting when ppl who watched the show when it aired to be get defensive when newer fans have questions/confusion
