My custom 20% daily driver after finishing my 20k word Masters thesis

I just finished my Masters thesis, and my beloved 20% is looking a little worn. But that just means it's battle tested!

I've been daily-driving this off and on since 2023. It's not perfect, but it is good. Everything is right where I want it. Kailh choc pinks (linear, 20gf) to make the chording easier.

I've included my keymap. Light blue squares are chords. Any time there are multiple things per key, the bottom one is single tap, then double tap (or triple in a few cases).

Some of my favourites:

  • Lots of tools for text navigation within easy reach
  • Single key press for paired brackets/parens/etc

I included pin breakouts for the Pimoroni trackball, but just never got around to actually installing it.

Uses the waveshare RP2040, and I initially tried getting it up and running with kmk, but the tapdance was a bit too much for it at the time. Just using zmk now because it's what I'm familiar with.

(terrible quality, sorry) typing video here. No sound because my webcam's microphone made it sound terrible.

My progress over my first 6 projects

I've been meaning to check out tablet weaving for years, and late last year (after procrastinating by binging a bunch of Elewys videos) I finally dove in. My first couple of backstrap projects were pretty rough but I was hooked and invested in the Inklette loom. I can see a big improvement in my tension and evenness when I started using the loom. I really love the detail that you can get out of the mercerised cotton, even when it's tiny!

Happy for any feedback as well.

Project details:

  1. Pretty rough! Can barely tell that it's this pattern. I had clearly not learnt how to read a pattern at this point.
  2. Better, but still making mistakes. This pattern
  3. In the flow now, but my weft tension was all over the place. This pattern
  4. Loom made everything better. This pattern
  5. Shoelaces! This pattern and this pattern.
  6. The best so far. I really wanted a "twist" pattern that was twist neutral so I played around until I had something I was happy with. This is the pattern.

The implication of all the different "curse" words in the Cosmere

"Storms" on a planet with a lot of storms

"Rust" on a planet with a focus on metals

"Colours" on a planet with colour magic

"Sands" on a planet with sand magic

"Shadows" on a planet with a shade infestation

....

"Fuck" on Earth, a planet full of....
