Grapefruit meaning

I realized when I first listened to 'grapefruit' that it was very likely also a reference to a past song they were featured on- 'Fetus' by Amine. I thought I'd share because I hadn't seen anyone mention it and I think it adds more density to the track

"I think we are just so used to life not being valued

That we think wasting it on kindness is a bad idea

You should be gettin' money

You should be fuckin' hoes

You should drive fast cars

And then you realize that you, sometimes, you get those things

And now you're just a nigga with those things

'Cause it's like, well, what's next?

And it's like, well, I never tried a grapefruit by itself

And now you're just a nigga peelin', like, eatin' a grapefruit

And you're like, "This is nice"

With sugar in it and you're like, "Why is this nicer than my Ferrari?""

On my Dr. K Arc

It's been 5 years since I started watching Dr. K and my life has done a 180!

I was 24 coming out of covid after a year of doing nothing. Hopeless with no life direction, I had little confidence in myself or my future. I was the "gifted kid" archetype that burned out in college. I became mostly a shut-in. I had a degree but no career path. I was a shell of myself, lived at home, and had no relationship experience which was the only part of those negatives that I actually cared about. I was diagnosed with a severe form of IBD that snapped me awake and I decided I needed to change my life.

I found Dr. K, therapy, and focused ceaselessly on internal work. But I built myself up in pieces, not all at once. My romantic life was most important to me so I decided to focus all my efforts on that first. I got on dating apps. Had around 4 matches in 6 months that made it to dates. Had my first kiss the day after my 25th birthday. Never saw her again. Kept going. A few months later I moved out (not without the help of my parents to give me a 1 year trial on my own). Had my first relationship. That lasted a year and a half and was life changing. We split on good terms and I switched focus onto my career.

I applied to a healthcare program at a prestigious university and got in. Now because I was past 26 and off my parent's insurance and paying for my own place I still had to work so I did. I went to school/clinic and worked my job at the same time. I had no significant real time outside of work and school. But i was surprisingly ok with it. I had tasted a life that I wanted so it was easier to do the hard stuff. I had a situationship during this simply because of the lack of time I had to dedicate to someone properly. I then got offered a position for a job at my dream location!

Right near the end of my program one of my clinical instructors slid into my dms right after I finished my last rotation at her clinical site. The one person I had a crush on the entire program and someone that I would have never expected to be into me. Or expected something like this to happen to me. If leagues were a thing she'd definitely be way out of it. And she saw me at my worst while I was training. All the mistakes I made, the no care I put into my appearance in our ugly uniforms and no time to work out, and in an environment where the last thing I was trying to do was flirt.

Flash forward a few weeks later and I have a new girlfriend I can see a future with, I start the first day of my career on monday, I will be giving a lecture to future classes, I just adopted 2 cats, and most importantly I like and am proud of myself. I wanted to get my shit together before I turn 30... and I made it :)

And now the show must go on!
