First Blokees kit: I LOVE IT

We don't get Transformers toys in India anymore. Big bummer because I basically grew up on Transformers (the movies, the games, and Prime, mainly). So when I got a chance to buy this imported kit for cheap I jumped at it, even though I've never put a model kit together before. And I must say I'm absolutely in love. It's a bit on the small side, but it's absurdly detailed and unbelievably cool. Can't wait to add more of these (Action Edition Optimus Prime, you WILL be mine!). A fig of this detail deserves better shots but I could NOT resist taking a few poses as soon as I was done! (Please don't mind the surroundings :P)

KTM Track Event Experience: I Get It Now (RE Owner's Perspective of A Duke)

KTM India organised a track day event where we could try out the whole updated 2026 Duke range on a small go-kart track. Having never driven a Duke (or indeed any modern sportsbike), I thought it would be great to experience one on a closed course, since I've been thinking about getting a sportsbike for a while.

TL;DR: As a one-time Duke hater and someone who's dailied a Thunderbird for the last few years and was never into sports bikes, I can say I am officially a massive Duke fanboy now. (Now you can skip the yapping and go directly to the questions and discussions at the end of the post :D) (please do go there 🙏)

Long Version:

We arrived at the track, and after a short crash course on do's and don'ts (standard rules: no overtaking, no stunting etc.) and differences as compared to a normal bike we were ready to get geared up and head out. The organisers provided protective jackets, leg guards, and gloves, but we had to bring our own full-face helmets. There would be six of us on track at the same time, and we would be headed by a pace bike, and we would get 5 laps of the track.

Let me preface my experience itself by telling you that I've never been a big fan of the Duke. I hated it when I was younger (due to the nature of the average buyer), and over time it shifted to an understanding of why the bike has the reputation that it does, and an admiration for all the things it does well (good handling, spiky power, inexpensive to buy and run) while still not really liking the looks or it's reputation at all.

There was a variety of bikes to choose from, and while the two 390s were taken, there was a single 200 left, a MY2025 in Silver Metallic. If I'm being honest I was already eyeing that, and that single bike alone might have swayed my opinions on the Duke's looks (big bummer that the 2026 200 loses the beautiful multi-spoke wheels for the 390's plain and ugly 5-spoke pieces). Getting into the correct seating posture, especially my hand and foot placements was a bit of an adjustment compared to my daily but it wasn't an issue at all. I found the pegs, shifter, and brake quite easily, and I was able to get my arms in a comfortable position as well.

Starting the engine and feeling it rev high was euphoric: I've always wished my RE would rev higher and faster, and here I was with exactly such an engine at my command. It was like electricity the way it responded to my inputs, and I could already tell that it was going to be fun.

It took me 2 laps to properly get some confidence in myself and the bike but once I was able to start pushing, being more aggressive with the controls and just getting into the zone, the bike was responding beautifully. The balance was perfect, with no wayward movements during acceleration, braking or turning. The bike was doing EXACTLY what I asked it to, and yet with every turn I could feel that it could do more and more. The way the tyres gripped gave me so much confidence to be able to trail brake super deep into the corner and get on the throttle as early as possible, and it was just exploding out of corners, but with such control and composure that you just can't help but light the fuse again and again. By the third lap I was fast enough that the guys ahead of me were too slow, and I had to fall back to give myself space to have some fun, but even so the 5 laps were up JUST as everything began to click into place. I got off the bike with my forearms and stomach aching like hell (I'm not exactly super fit) but I was still buzzing with excitement and adrenaline, and I couldn't have been happier.

To sum up my feelings after possibly some of the best 10 minutes I had in my life: I am officially a Duke fanboy now, and I get the hype. It's an absolute shame that it has such a bad rep in our society, but given that that is enabled by how cheap and accessible such an awesome experience is it's understandable. And I know now without a shadow of doubt that I want to own a sportsbike. As much as I love the RE and its super chill nature, one needs to have some excitement in life, and that's exactly what a sportsbike would bring. That doesn't mean that I'll be getting rid of the Thunderbird, it's still the most comfortable way to go anywhere short of a car, but it would be awesome to wake up in the morning and be able to pick a different bike based on my mood for the day.

Now for some questions: How do the 160, 200, and 390/R differ in terms of feel? Will the 390 R be the same riding-a-bomb type experience as the 200, but faster? What other bikes around the 2L mark would you say offer a similar feel to the 200? Would an XSR 155 or an RTR 200 4v offer up similar thrills? (I'm really partial to the XSR). Are there any similar track experiences that happen in and around Hyderabad? And finally: Does it look like the bike does not suit me aesthetically?

Cheers!
