What's wrong with Beyond All Reason scale, compared to TA and SupCom?
It's not a complaint thread, I just want to figure out how it works. I love BAR (except when they removed air staging facilities), but it feels so off.
For some reason, I never saw BAR presentation as "epic" or "massive scale". The map looks small (not in gameplay terms, but in the "feel" of it), units and buildings look small, as if it was a tabletop game. Yes, it has a very big "table", but it still feels like a tabletop. It's not the same in Supreme Commander (which looks gorgeously epic) or even Total Annihilation.
But why? What exactly makes the game look toy-ish? Is it camera FOV, or something with the models themselves? Or is it how it moves?
Is there anyone with design background who could explain how it works?
