How many skirmish/tabletop wargames are out there? I started counting (249 so far) and built a whole website around it
Hello everyone. I've been building a wargaming catalogue in my spare time and wanted to share it: https://www.wargamesdb.com/
Over the past year I kept noticing new skirmish and tabletop games every month, and I started wondering how many were actually out there. For something I used to think of as niche, there's a lot more than meets the eye 😅
There are currently 249 games in the catalogue (432 if you include editions and expansions). Scope is still evolving. Right now it covers solo skirmish through large-scale battles. I'm debating whether dungeon crawlers belong. Curious what you think?
I didn't want it to be just a 'simple' games catalogue. I structured it as Universe → Games → Factions → Warbands, so related games sit together and faction-level detail has a home. With better data, better features can be built. For example, reviews and personal game lists can tag the factions/warbands you actually play, not just the game itself.
This is a hobby side project and it's in Beta. New games keep appearing, so the plan has always been community contributions: you can suggest or edit entries, and everything goes through a human review before it's published. I've learned a lot digging into the hobby's history along the way. The obvious reason for the 'Beta' is that i fully acknowledge there are big data gaps, inconsistencies and even likely some errors. Also expect a bug or two :D I do however aim to keep working on this, it's been quite a lot of fun and a great learning experience.
