Does anyone know what/how he signs books? I picked this up at a secondhand store in my area (it's a copy of " big little" ) or is this a random person also named Todd....
I will be leaving my center soon, I've given my notice to admin, but I'm not sure when to tell my coworkers, especially my co-teacher. Part of me doesn't want to say anything, and just slip away after my last day, but part of me doesn't since my center is now down 7 people in 3 months and I'll make 8. I'm thinking of writing out the whole fall semester lesson plans (my co-teacher and I spilt prep) as a parting gift of sorts.
Also when/how do I tell my families? I don't think admin generally says/does anything when people have left (that I've heard, they often say "turnover is part of ECE" which hurts a little)
I know I don't want any going away stuff (no flowers/cards/etc)
and done rambling for now!
I'm considering taking a job with licensing as an inspector. Would the fact that I'm just about to leave the classroom be an asset or a risk? I know what a great program looks like, what an okay program one looks like, and I've heard stories of what bad ones look like. Has anyone else worked for licensing (in particular TX)?
Whose programs has a garden/outdoor space separate from your playground? My center has one with 4 raised boxes, an adult size picnic table and a whole lot of weeds. Each of the older classes is supposed to have a box to grow and tend to plants but no one really does since our only staff member with gardening abilities left. It's very sad looking and I feel bad when we have tours come through.
If your program has a garden who is in charge of it? How do you keep it up? What do you have in there? I feel like if we got it going and added some more things it could be a really fun and special space.
Bonus points if you're in Texas/ the south and have to deal with heat and drought.
Thankfully most of the comments were "let them draw what they want", "why does this matter?" "It's a phase".
I don't understand why many "Christian" people are against horror/gore....
Has anyone's program had a "different" training for PD? Not talking about all the different state required ones, ones that taught you something new, something unexpected, and maybe fun? Closest one I can think of is a product vs process art where we had to follow directions to make a paper cat step by step versus letting us doing whatever.
People who teach 12-18 month olds. How do you store/display your toys on shelves? We have mostly baskets or plastic shoeboxes without lids for smaller things and now there is a new state rule "no empty shelves" so hopefully we'll be getting more toys soon but the dumping will probably be the death of me.
Also I will take durable, easily 3-step washable toy suggestions!
Who is open today? And who has off? my center is open and every single room is almost full. Normally lots of families take off today or do half days, not this year! And we know a lot of the parents have today off since many of them work at the same places.....*sigh*stupid holiday policy of only getting the 4th off if it's a weekday...
According to local moms group I'm in HEB curbside and online ordering got hacked so it's temporarily down, anyone heard the same or can verify?
Why/how does First Baptist Church have a MDO and a preschool program? Most church's have one or the other? Just curious....
I need recommendations for spray bottles that a 12-18 month old can use with adult help or even better independently (I know, I know, I didn't choose this) . Looking ahead to fall curriculum for updates/changes and saw that 3 different activities have us using spray bottles with the toddlers.
TIA!
I have a 14 month old in my class. She's been with us for almost a month (she's never been away from parents before and she's an only child). This kid doesn't nap! Her times range from 25-42 minutes, she only sucks her thumb for comfort and takes A LOT of patting and rocking to get down at all. the issue is the minute she wakes up she is LOUD and regularly wakes up the other children so most of my room is getting their nap cut short thanks to her. At home she gets a second nap around 4-5 pm and goes to bed at 9, waking up at 7. Anyone have any ideas on how to get to either sleep longer or wake up quieter?
Mom and dad said they'd be willing to try and drop her second nap to help.
I'm considered enrolling my son to the Rise School along with possibly applying to teach there myself. Can anyone tell me about it as either a staff member or a parent? I love the inclusion and co-teaching model!
the rooms ranging from infants-pre-K and we teach in pairs and most of us have been at the school for 0-3 years with a few outliers. The first half of the school has very solid pairings for the most part but the older half has one teacher from every room leaving soon for a variety of reasons. We're at risk of being closed due to supervision lapses, we've had 4 directors in 3 years, and our owner keeps pushing for more enrollment despite these all issues and adding to the such as using cheaper vendors and never being helpful.
how much longer do you think we can hang on?
My center ( a chain franchise) is more than likely about to be shut down due to repeated lapses in supervision (almost all in the same room). How do you wrap things up with families? Are you given a notice-2 weeks? 30 days? Or is it immediate? what do you do with all the stuff-the toys, art supplies, furniture?Im so upset and overwhelmed and so angry!
