Tips on piloting Necromancer? I'm struggling

I've chosen Necromancer as my Legendary Defender of Ascalon character and I am getting my ass kicked. Feeling a little dejected because apparently Necromancer is on the easier side and I am getting my ass beat lol.

I've gone all in on Death Magic, and the problem I'm having is if I struggle to get rolling raising minions, I do zero damage and have zero sustain. Should I focus on Blood Magic to make all my blood spells do more damage and healing? and use low level minions more as a distraction?

I'm a newer player. My main character is a warrior that just got Lion's Arch, so the necromancer is more of a fun side project but it feels so much tougher. I don't understand how aggro works either. Sometimes I'll get dogpiled immediately and other times all the enemies will attack my minions and things go smoother. Warrior has felt easier despite all the annoyances of being melee since I am more tanky.

I've been trying to solo the dungeon quest to unlock Devona, and the Charr feel too tanky sometimes and I can't get them down quick to start the minion train. It's definitely a struggle if I don't have corpses to raise like if I have been fighting elementals. I haven't locked in a secondary yet, but I am using the ranger skills to have a pet and the healing ability.

Necromancer or Warrior for LDoA?

These are the two main classes I'm interested and I'm curious what people think is better in Pre-Searing. I'm going to do this kinda casually mainly to eventually work towards GW2 Hall of Monuments stuff.

EDIT

I guess I should have included what feels more poweful solo beyond LDoA as well since I will slowly be working towards Hall of Monuments stuff

When does it get better?

I want to pull my hair out.

I have gotten to post-searing Ascalon and this game is doing everything it can to make melee as miserable as possible (I am a warrior). I can use henchman now and I am constantly having to chase down the healer because she runs away all the time. I am constantly getting slowed, blinded, or the enemy will do something that makes it impossible to hit them.

I would love any tips to counter this stuff or make my gameplay experience smoother in general. I am kicking myself because I was torn between choosing warrior and mesmer, and I see now I would probably be having much more fun as a spell caster. I'm sure they have things that are frustrating to play against as well, but holy the melee experience as become agonizing for me.

I want to do the stories in order, so I don't really want to restart and do everything in the starting zone again, but maybe I should if it will be a more fun experience overall for me.

Ranger or Monk secondary for a new player in Prophecies?

I'm a warrior and from what I've gathered these are the two secondary professions that would be most useful to me.

I've done all the side quests I can find so I think I need to progress the story, but I haven't chosen my secondary yet. If I'm playing alone would monk or ranger be more useful/more forgiving?

Do you kill off any companions?

DA2 and Inquisition are easy for me. Anders and Iron Bull die due to the story.

Origins is the one I'm struggling with. I'm debating between a dwarf noble or human noble that goes full dark world and due to his choices ends up killing Zevran before even recruiting him, killing off Leliana and Wynne at the same by defiling the Urn of Sacred Ashes, killing Shale at the Anvil of the Void, and letting Anora execute Alistair to secure her reign.

I'm not sure how fun that world state would actually be. I do think some of the darker choices are interesting, like siding with the werewolves, but I struggle with why exactly my character would bother defiling the urn of sacred ashes...maybe prioritizing power through drinking dragon blood I guess (would a dwarf even care about that? Ingesting dragon blood seems to be mostly a human thing). It also eliminates a bunch of cameos. All these choices can still be made without killing off the characters.

Duncan and the Human Noble origin

Do you guys think Duncan and the Human Noble had to do significant fighting on their way out of the castle? I'm having a difficult time justifying why this character would even go along with joining the Grey Wardens, especially since his mother doesn't even make it out as well.

This is the first origin I don't really like. Obviously the Wardens do what they must, and this origin painted Duncan in a much different light compared to others, IMO. It feels like blackmailing Bryce Cousland in his final moments.

I've done the Dalish Elf origin, which makes complete sense considering Mahariel will literally die without joining. I've also done male City Elf where I got the impression Duncan was happy to help instigate something to get Adaia's son, but even that character was happy to join the Wardens.

I want to marry Anora so I'm going to see how this plays out, but this is my least favorite origin so far.

This character I imagine focusing more on the the Court than being a warden after Awakening. I'm going to romance Morrigan but not go through the Eluvian in Witch Hunt. In between the base game and Witch Hunt he falls for Anora.

Do you attack with a weapon as Arcane Warrior or mainly use the spec to equip better armor?

I unlocked Arcane Warrior and I am a little disappointed so far, to be honest.

I'm pretty sure I just missed 6 times in a row using Combat Magic to attack with a weapon. I feel like it would be more useful to keep playing as a caster with better equipment. For now atleast I think I've used my specialization point to equip the Helm of Honnleath, lol.

I think Spirit Warrior may have been what I was actually looking for, but that is only for Awakening.

Why do like your race/origin for the HoF?

I'm about to do a full series play through and I've never had a big attachment to the HoF compared to Hawke/Inquisitor honestly. I just don't know what to play lol.

Maybe Dalish for the franchise connection (most likely romancing Morrigan), and it is a shorter origin.

Also thinking about Human Noble because I like Anora a lot and marrying her is cool, but I don't know to end the play through as one. I don't see my Prince-Consort HoF going through the Eluvian due to his duties. Maybe he refused to do the Dark Ritual and has Loghain die killing the Archdemon? Or maybe a Leliana romance but that is disrespectful to both Anora and her.

I know people rave about the Dwarf Noble origin, but I'm not the biggest dwarf fan, their model is awful, and that origin is the longest one...

Looking for some inspiration honestly. Nothing jumps out at me. City Elf that sides with the Werewolves because he finally meets the Dalish and they suck lol might be interesting...

Anyone know how to patch the GOG version of Origins?

I watched a video and it said to place the non dazip files into the override folder. As far as I can tell there isn't one.

I went packages > core > and created an override folder and dropped the gda files in there but the mods aren't working.

Don't have a class preference - Looking for opinions on fun factor of Veil Ranger, Reaper, and Evoker

Deciding on what I want my DAV MC to be.

I'm debating between Elf/Dwarf and Grey Warden/Mourn Watch so far. I have no idea about what class I want to play. Just want to have the most fun possible and Veil Ranger, Reaper, and Evoker seem like the most interesting specializations.
