Yet another little lady looking to lay her eggs in my swampy back yard. At least I assume its a female, since she is now buried about 4 inches deep, booty first, into the ground beneath a pile of yard trimmings. I now have two box turtle nests in my backyard, though the first nest is due to hatch out any day now (the ground is still intact). I'm a little concerned about the scrapes on her scutes, any idea what may have caused it? The scratches look old to me so I'm hoping they aren't impacting her quality of life. They're pretty consistent with what getting scraped by a broken fence board and most fences in my neighborhood are older, so maybe that?

My yard backs up to the Ocmulgee river shed but this is the first time the boxies have ever come this far up the hill to lay. Hopefully they're not an omen of floods to come.

It finally happened! A box turtle picked my yard for her babies! I've spent the last 10 years rewilding my backyard, so this is a huge milestone for me, along with the return of the fireflies a few summers ago.

Unfortunately, she picked literally the worst place, directly in the rut of the fence gate. Its the only gate between the front and back yards, and she picked a spot that floods. She was actively laying when I discovered her, so we left her to it, but what can I do to keep the eggs safe once she leaves them? Is moving them feasible? Theyre a VERY long way from the nearest water source, but at least its a straight shot through my backyard. What makes a location suitable for box turtle eggs?

Wondering if these might be dwarf pawpaw instead of triloba due to the small size of the flowers. Anyone able to help define the visual differences between the two for me? I understand plant key language if that helps.
