Just wanted to show my setup that I’ve been slowly building upon over a decade.
Running 6 computers in this space. Why? Just collecting spare parts all the time and they are all for specific reasons. The main quad display setup is using a 4 display 4 computer 4k@144hz kvm running it all to switch between machines, versus using a multiple input mouse or keyboard layout like an mx master or mx keys for example.
So the first one is for my ryzen 9 7900x and 4080 super build along with 128gb of ddr5 (all built in 2023-2024 before price hike) and the second one is for my Mac Studio (base model for video editing no LLM’s.)
I also have a 4x quadro rtx 6000 24GB(2020 models) and 128gb ddr4 with an i9-12900k build for any sort of intense rendering that requires multiple days if I don’t want to fully bog down my Mac Studio(mainly 3d blender renders) and occasionally I’ll test out a couple local LLM’s with the quadro build as well thanks to nvlink and 96gbs of GDDR6 to toy around with as my 3rd machine.
And then the last device on the kvm is an intel NUC that I use as a Linux mini pc for random tasks and mainly as a plex server using thunderbolt and a raid 10 nas enclosure with a total of 128TB of storage also used as well for freelance video and photography editing for various companies in my area. On top of that I have tons of random drives strewn throughout the back half of my desk hidden by displays that’s being used as basically as a steam cache if needing to move a game or if the internet ever gives me an issue.
All of this goes through an 8 input 8 output av pro edge 8k60 matrix with multiple 8k 60 splitters added into the chain to go out to all of the other displays. Was this necessary? No not at all. But is it extremely handy and makes it to where I never have to unplug cables for any reason for foreseeable future. Absolutely and I would do it all over again.
The 43” monitor setup is just a caldigit ts5 dock with a 4k 144hz VA panel aorus gaming monitor with a laptop stand and a portable 16inch 1440p 144hz monitor. I have my MacBook Air m4 32gb 1tb being used on this stand/setup. Theoretically anything with thunderbolt would work fine. Also my raspberry pi (home automation and headless with an hdmi just in case) as well as having my PlayStation 5 pro being used on the 43” gaming monitor as well as being able to be shown on any display technically but usually just the 98” display. Also as for the two Mac setups, I mainly just like to have at least one Mac system going at all times for emails, texts and discord/slack notifications.
I know a lot of this is overkill and could definitely be slimmed down to just one or two devices but I was thankful enough to receive a large majority of the monitors, peripherals and sound systems along with storage and ram from a prior A/V job working for massive corporations who just wanted proof of destruction or a photo showing that it was in the trash so a quick photo to them and on the way home with me it went. This was over the span of 3 years at that job.
TL;DR. Have been collecting tech in general for 20 years this is what it has all culminated into. I hope it’s not too much of an eyesore. Function over form for me 99% of the time. While still trying to keep it as clean as possible.
