The worst part isn't even the money it's the fact that I genuinely thought she called because she cared about me

The worst part isn't even the money it's the fact that I genuinely thought she called because she cared about me

I need to vent because my heart genuinely hurts right now. I have this "friend" who practically never reaches out. She doesn't call, she doesn't text, and if I don't initiate, we go a whole year without speaking.
Today, out of nowhere, I saw her name lighting up my phone screen. For a split second, my heart warmed up. I genuinely thought, “Oh, she finally missed me. She’s calling to check in on me and see how I’m doing.”
Nope. The moment I answered, it became clear she only called because she’s in a tight spot and needs money.
It feels so incredibly insincere…
Why would anyone ask for money from someone who they don’t even care. I thaught she is calling because I was wrong, She wants to talk with me. Damn.

Is reading 19th-century classics actually helpful for language acquisition, or just too archaic?

I’m currently diving into Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities to challenge my English and expand my vocabulary. While I absolutely love the rhythm and atmosphere of Victorian prose, I sometimes wonder if internalizing these older sentence structures and archaic phrasings is practical for modern fluency.
What are your thoughts on using classic literature for language learning? Do you prefer sticking to contemporary books, or do you find older prose rewarding?

What are some of the most ridiculous problems you’ve faced with your friends?

**Honestly, I've had my fair share of friendship drama, but every experience taught me a lesson. For example, one of my friends used to constantly manipulate me emotionally. She always guilt-tripped me, claiming I didn't care about her enough, and accused me of acting superior to her. She struggled with deep insecurity and anxiety, so I kept tolerating her behavior, but she just wouldn't stop. I felt completely drained. In the end, she said a ton of nasty things to me and blocked me anyway. I really regret putting up with her for so long just for it to end like this.**
